My son had cradle cap, too. In the bath, I would soap up his head first, and rinse it off last. Then, while still in the water, I'd use the Safety First Cradle Cap Brush to loosen up the dry skin, and then brush it out. Then, I would rinse his head again a few times with the bath water. It took a couple of baths, but it worked really well and it cleared up.
Ours cleared up at about 2.5 months, but we had to take some action on it.
First, we rubbed his head down with olive oil, and let him lay with his head on a burp cloth for about 20 minutes. Then I combed things through with a very fine comb like this:

Then we hit the bathtub with warm water. We use a gentle newborn shampoo designed to help with cradle cap, and it hasn't caused any trouble with sensitive skin. We scrubbed a little with the brush, and combed again.

We did the olive oil treatment probably 2 or three times in the span of a week, and it took care of the worst of it. Since then, we do a bath 5 or 6 nights a week with just the shampoo, and that's kept it clear since.
My daughter had it soooo badly forever. At 7 months the flakes were finally 100% gone. Our pediatrician gave us some advice (use Head & Shoulders) but warned us that time is what would ultimately cure it.
What worked to minimize hers was a combination of Mustela baby shampoo and a cradle cap comb. Previously we'd tried Head & Shoulders, olive oil, and coconut oil. Nothing worked quite as well as the shampoo plus comb.

I put some coconut oil on his head at the beginning of the bath and then at the end of the bath scrubbed with the brush part. And then used the comb part to get it all out. It never came back after that one time.

Rubbed some coconut oil on his head at the beginning of the bath. At the end of the bath used the brush part to gently scrub his head and then rinse. Then took him out of the bath and used the comb part to remove all the stuff that came off.
My LO had bad cradle cap at first. We put Burts Bees baby oil on his scalp for about 30 minutes, then combed out loose flakes with this amazing comb, then washed his hair. We used Selsun blue a few times and then switched to Mustela. It was gone in about a week!

I used the Mustela foam shampoo - people rave about it, but it was just fine and didn't take care of it on its own. I'm sure it softened things up for what REALLY worked Cradle Cap Brush this thing has one part to massage the flakes and a comb that brushes them off. I think I only used it 2-3x and my kiddos was gone. He had one little flake still that hadn't come off around a year old and I took it out after his bath one day and took care of that one too. It's a lot less intensive than massaging on coconut oil for days!

We used baby shampoo daily (baby girl has a ton of hair), and I used the Safety 1st Cradle Cap Brush and Comb
Massage the shampoo in, use the brush, rinse, the comb out the flakes. Cleared up in about 2 weeks. We’ve still got some patches but nothing major.
We used this and a little olive oil. Worked scary well. Check out the reviews on Amazon; the pics are disgusting but it really shows how well it works.
