Try cutting them when dude is fresh out of the bath. Nail is softer and easier to clip through. Also, try these: http://www.amazon.com/Safety-1st-Sleepy-Baby-Clipper/dp/B001579YRM
They are lighted, and if you still don't feel comfortable with them, use the little emory board that comes with it instead. :)

:( That does sound hectic. My registry is kinda all over the place because I've already bought a ton of stuff, but just some suggestions of some things (FTM so no idea really if these are good or not, some were recommendations from friends, some were recommendations from various online resources).

  • car seat, extra base if you have more than one car, and stroller
  • baby carrier - I got the ergobaby 360 with infant insert but the Lillebaby 360 is also super popular.
  • swaddles - aden & anais seem to be hugely popular.
  • bathing supplies - washcloths, bathtub
  • first aid kit supplies - NoseFrida, nail clipper, thermometer
  • feeding - bottles, sterilizer (some people told me I had to have it, some said it was totally unnecessary), bottle cleaner brush, drying rack (seems like everyone else loves the Boon grass, but I don't have the counter space!) You can get a pump through your insurance if you plan to breastfeed, I ordered mine through Aeroflow. I ultimately chose the Spectra S2 over the Medela PISA because it's a closed system, which apparently means less chances of bacteria getting into the system and thus easier cleaning.
  • burp clothes - I was told to just get a ton of cloth diapers to use as burp clothes, and to have them everywhere.
  • diaper pail - I have two friends who say this is good enough, so I went with it. They also said to use doggie poop bags to contain the smelly diapers.
  • humidifier
  • Boppy for nursing
  • Backpack style diaper bag
  • baby may need a more convenient place to be set down other than the crib, something you can have near you in the kitchen, shower, whatever. Popular options are the rock n play, Boppy lounger, or a pack 'n play. I plan on getting the Chicco FastAsleep pack 'n play because the crib/dresser/changing station is on our 2nd floor, so I figured this could double as a changing station/napper on the first floor.

Lucie's List is probably the best resource I found online.

Baby fingernail clippers. Preferably with the light. https://www.amazon.com/Safety-1st-Sleepy-Baby-Clipper/dp/B001579YRM

I've been clipping Savannah's nails since day one with this and have never had any issues. I've never cut her skin and she loves when I cut her finger and toe nails because after that one of her big sisters paints her nails for her. She sits very still for her nails to be cut and painted. 💖

  • These are the best nail clippers. The light makes it SO much easier to see what you're doing. Clip when baby's sleeping. We've not had one clipper-related accident yet.
  • I use my boppy all the time! It's great for feedings, helping him when he was learning to sit, etc. I've used it everyday since he was born. Get an extra cover though, trust me.
  • The pack n play was useful, especially in the beginning. My son doesn't like babywearing (boo!), so I set the pack n play up in the living room or kitchen for him to nap while I got things done. Sometimes I'd use the swing, but it's not good for babies to spend too much time sitting in swings. We also do a fair amount of traveling to visit family, so it has been great for that.
*Someone else mentioned the ducky thermometer--that has been awesome! Also, hooded towels make things easier. This has also made bath time easier!

I did that once too, and I think I cried more than she did!!

I got this clipper since and the light REALLY helps!

So i can't remember what age i switched to my current method but i think it was around 2. Before that i cut his nails by putting a video on youtube with music and he would be distracted with that as we sing i would clip away. Then i switched to have 4 m&m type candy and he gets one per hand & feet, i may have done a few more for feet when we started to keep him happy. Now he knows he gets the 4 m&m type candy when we are done, i cut all then give them to him after (he is 2.5 yrs). my husband and I both let him watch us cut our nails too and i close the clipper and have him pretend he is cutting our nails.
I have used this nail clipper since he was born, clipped him once when i tried to switch nail clippers so went back to my trusty friend.

For teeth when he use to resist i would lay him on my bed and tell him i am tickling his teeth, would tickle his belly and when he laughed i would go in with the toothbrush and say tickle tickle tickle, he started to love brushing time and would laugh as soon as he saw the tooth brush. We then moved to getting him on a step stool in bathroom so he can reach the sink etc and feel big and switched to having 2 toothbrushes and he gets to pick the color he wants and i get the other and we take turns brushing, then we just took turns with the 1 toothbrush, whichever color he picks (makes him feel like he had a choice in brushing). I now got him a battery toothbrush (yes i know too early but i hold it all the time and it is to get him use to the sound so he does not flip at dentist) and that is super fun for him, he lets me brush away with that as long as he gets to turn it on and off.
I highly recommend the multiple toothbrushes thou to give kiddo a choice of which toothbrush vs brush or no brush. Also let him watch you brush, make exaggerated eeeees and ahhhhhs maybe let SO brush yours or other way so kid sees, have kid hold your brush and brush your teeth while u do the eees and ahhhs.

They have a little flashlight built in. We bed shared for his first 18 months so I would clip them while he slept. Now it's a bit more challenging but he likes the light enough that he tolerates it.

Yay for your results! My son was born at 34 weeks, 4.5 pounds. It seems super small for people who aren't used to preemies, but as a NICU nurse, I can tell you those little ones are very feisty. Try not to worry too much about your cousin's baby :D

I'm not sure there's really any "cool" baby stuff, but here are some of my favorite random items:

  • Nosefrida. Seriously, just buy this. You need it.
  • Vick's rectal thermometer. Helpful for parents who aren't used to taking rectal temps. As you can see, you physically can't stick this in too far, so it seems less daunting. My only complaint is that it reads so quickly that occasionally it would read lower than I knew his temperature was. I would just repeat it and get the real result the second time around.
  • Safety 1st nail clippers. Has a light and everything so you can see what you're doing. My friend would actually make me cut her daughter's nails with my clippers when she came to visit, lol.

I also think everyone should have some sort of baby carrying device. If you get something with buckles (like an Ergo), make sure the seat of the carrier is wide enough to support your baby from knee to knee. Think an Ergo, not a Baby Bjorn.

Hmm, that's all for now. I'll try to think of something cool ;)
