Start from the beginning. It is truly a fantastic comic. You can pick up all of the issues 1-24 in collected editions, which would be cheaper than buying the individual issues. I would highly recommend not reading chapter 24 until you have read all of them up to that point.

Not at all! You can find the first three hardcover volumes on Amazon for a decent price. I recently re-read all of them in about a month of casual reading. As people mentioned, the creative team behind it are on a hiatus after reaching the halfway point last year, but confirmed they will finish the story. But now is just as good a time as any to get caught up.

It's unlike anything I have ever read before, and they made it so that it could never be adapted to film or TV, so you can only get the story in this format.

Get some graphic novels to read when you're weeded. Saga, etc.

I suggest you dive right in and pick up the hardcover deluxe book, which covers issues #1-18. Volume 4 (#19-24) also comes out later this year. If you want to keep your collection more consistent, you could always pick up the softcover trades for Vol 1-3, but the hardcover includes loads of extras for pretty much the same price.

What it says on the tin. Want to have a displacer beast as an animal companion? How about a guard drake, or one of the fern hounds from Guild Wars 2? Then this is for you!

More Companions

14 new ranger companions are found here that add to the utility options that the ranger excels at. Rather than give the beast master more combat power, I largely focused on giving each companion its own quirks which makes playing with each feel completely different. Inspiration came from all over - Final Fantasy, Twig, Saga, and the WotC campaign books themselves.

Dialing Back from UA

The current UA revised ranger has a lot of advantages with multiclassing that are not yet balanced, and this seeks to dial those features back a bit. It is a mix of the PHB ranger and the UA ranger, and in terms of pure combat potential this version veers closer to the PHB than the UA. It encourages creative use of the beast, but still wariness. The action economy is tied back to the Ranger and the auto revival no longer happens.

This is my first major homebrew document, so any feedback is helpful. All the companions can of course be used with the UA Revised Ranger, if one should choose to do so.

What I wanted to do was to get more utility out of the choice of animal (rather than just picking between Pounce or Pack Tactics, for example). That's how this thing started.

I thought it'd be worth sharing here. :)

On page 1 I give a detailed explanation for how I went about deciding to make the changes I did, and Page 2 summarizes the changes so you don't have to do a 1:1 comparison with existing articles out there.

Really Really Rushed Flavor Text

Not yet incorporated, but if you want more about the companions this is the fluff for them.

For convenience, UA Revised is here and leuku's post is here. Finally, the inspirations behind the 14 companions are here and here.

If you can, try to pick this up: http://www.amazon.com/Saga-Deluxe-HC-Brian-Vaughan/dp/1632150786/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421769383&sr=8-1&keywords=saga+vol+1+deluxe

It's got the first 18 issues in it, and at $30, it's a steal. You can't get all the trades for that price.

This thread inspired me to pop over to Amazon and the order Vol 4 trade. There I see this. Anyone know if the quality of Image's hardbacks are more Marvel Omnibus, or are they closer to DC's Deluxe Editions?

first off dam, you are pretty freaking awesome for doing this!

Item one on the list: Zoom H1MB Handheld Recorder

this one is a long shot but is £79 from 3rd party, or 120 from direct. Essentialy have you ever wanted to do a podcast with your friends? or do any sort of audio recording that is of freaking awesome quality? this is a great entry level. i currently am starting podcasts up and have a home recording but have no way to take a decent mic out the house. i would love to be able to record with several friends at their house for the audio. this is SO good to help, and literaly its all you need to do a podcast. you could put this on your living room table, with a little help from some editing software (id be happy to do for you!) you can have a rocking piece of audio for a podcast!

Item Two: Essentials Audio Recording Portable Vocal Booth

ok if you cant tell by now i love doing home recording. this is something i REALLY want to get for my home recording settup, as it just.... well. essentialy what it does it gives you soundproofing all around your microphone. its SUPER good if you dont want to have to soundproof an entire room or sit with a towl over your head and mic. its amazing. as a person who uses his bedroom as his studio, its literaly a one stop alternative to having to take down all my frames and such and build soundproof walls.

Item Three: Leatherman Multi-Tool Wingman

Instead of more audio equipment i thought i would offer something universaly useful. lethermens are some of the best multi tools on the planet. so good they come with a 25 year guarantee. seriously, if it fucks up you can just send it back. this is an intro level one that ive wanted for months since my dad got one, and its just super useful. a lot of the higher level lethermans either have less tools, or are more specific. my dad uses the skeleton model that is much better if you want a lot of screwdriver heads and such in it. however this one is far more general and offers a large number of useful tools. a letherman is the only multi tool your ever going to need, and its going to last

Item Four: Saga: Deluxe edition Vol 1

when im not recording podcasts about comics, im generaly reading them. Saga was a series that got me so hard into comics its untrue. its an epic space fantasy opera, that is currently number 1 in most the charts for things. if you want to get into comics and want to read something truely that will make you go "holy crap. i didnt know comics were like THIS." then saga is for you. saga is doing for sci fi comics what the walking dead did. only its up to issue 30 as apposed to 150, and because of the nature and size of the book cant be made into a tv show. ive got every issue as singles but dam, it would be good to have a way to read it without taking them all out of their sleeves.

God dam i realise how much stuff i like! have a great day buddy!

For anyone who doesn't understand this reference...

SAGA is widely regarded as one of the best modern sci-fi comics to come out.

It's got a similarly sly, fun, subtly self-aware vibe as Firefly and Guardians of the Galaxy.

It delivers literally everything you look for in a good comic...boundary pushing violence and sex with attractive characters and art. It's funny and paced so well, it's impossible to put down!

There are 2 hardcover volumes for $30 each that collects most of what's been released so far:

  • Book One

  • Book Two

After reading them on an iPad, the physical versions offered a much better experience.

If you want an affordable option, I recommend you pick up Saga Book 1. It's the first 1/3 of the entire series and for only $30, you get a lot of reading material.

u/squirrelmasterzero · 1 pointr/comicbooks

It's also only $30 on Amazon, that's where I ordered mine from.

Nice picks... but imo you should have gone for the Saga deluxe edition.

It's a really nice edition.

Sex Criminals has a deluxe edition coming soon, too.
