Ah VERY helpful! I have never had a Gold nib before, which is why I am looking now. I have been a fountain pen addict for about a year now, and my collection has 2 Metros, a LAMY Al-Star, a Jinhao Mother of Pearl, a Jinhao 159 (quite possibly my favorite nib of everything as it writes UNBELIEVABLY smooth), and Jinhao x450, a Jinhao x750, a Cross Bailey (which writes super thick for a medium nib) and a TWSBI Eco. I adore the fine nib of my Metro, but everything else is a medium nib, which to some degree i don't like. I think the medium on my metro is my favorite medium in regards to line size. Having said this, I believe what you stated about it being a smaller medium (due to it being a Japanese pen) may be what nib size I would want to go with.
As far as weight, my Jinhao 159 is SUPER heavy. For that reason, I only write with it at work when I know I will be in meetings or signing important documents. As far as weight is concerned I love the Metros for that reason, same as my Eco. I have yet to ink up the Jinhao x750, but I feel it would be very similar to the Sailor in size and feel, and it does feel like a solid pen.
In regards to the sailor lineup specifically, what are the notable differences between the Sailor Pro Gear, the Sailor 1911, the Sailor 1911L, and the version you mentioned? I have looked at the specs for each of them, but they all seem very similar.
I was looking at this as a possible purchase. https://www.amazon.com/Sailor-Standard-Black-Medium-Fountain/dp/B004FLG2PC
This is 14k versus what you stated as a 21k gold nib. Does that have something to do with the softness of it, and/or the possibility for line variation? Obviously they aren't flex nibs, or vintage nib pens, but I would like to have some amount of line variation for my everyday writing, and signatures.
I presume the Medium being more fine than normal would be true with this pen as well? Also, I believe the medium would be very similar to my Pilot Metro medium since they are both Japanese makes?
Sorry to bombard you with questions like this, but I want one of these pens very badly, and a gold nib at that but it's so hard to get good information and turn it into something I can identify with since I have no means of trying before I purchase. This is a fair bit of money to throw around on something ESPECIALLY without trying and knowing you like it for sure. Thank you in advance for your replies! I'm trying to be a sponge and soak up all of the information. Knowledge is power and experience is the best teacher. :)
