No, I'm sorry, I'm not going to let you win today Charles.
This is as of today.
Comparable specs on the drive
Edit: Dude what year is that Macbook from? That looks like it's a 2010 or something.

$600
I'm still saving for my new PC / laptop and this guy just went ahead and buy a single drive for $600.
Wow. Just wow. Grats!
Aren't y'all glad there are terabyte ssd now?
What are you going on about? $125 is a steal for a 1TB SSD. He went EVO because that's what he could get. He obviously wasn't in a store where he had options.
For reference:
Samsung 850 EVO - 1TB $318.77 @ Amazon
Samsung 850 PRO - 1TB $419.19 @ Amazon
Amazon has slightly better prices on the 256gb and 1tb:
1tb 850 pro for $419
256gb 850 pro for $127.88
On my editing machine, I have a 1TB Samsung Evo Pro as my 'work drive' which houses my active projects. I used to use a cheaper Sandisk drive but it gets so much stress that I kept burning them out.
I keep my OS and programs on a separate 248GB Samsung Evo Pro, and I also have a cheapo 128GB SSD for a cache disk.
I then keep a 'hot storage' archive which is a RAID'ed NAS with 8 x 4TB WD RED drives. I use the Synology DS1815+ which has been incredible.
Every 4 months, I back everything up on cold (i.e. uninstalled) 8TB RED drives. Down the line I'll probably offload the 4TBs and use the existing 8TBs as part of a RAID array.
I really try not to use my RAID for editing unless I'm in a real jam. It works fine actually, I just don't like to put unnecessary stress on it.
My archive system is worth more than my two main cameras, but it completely makes sense to me to invest in a bulletproof archival system.

They are suggesting a $13k price tag for a 13TB SSD using capacity-tier flash on a single 6G SATA channel.
If you spent something like $7100 for 8 x 2TB Samsung SATA SSDs and $600 for a decent 8 port card you'd have >$5k left to spend on a new server enclosure (if needed). In return you'd get 8 times the read performance.
Modern SSDs are already constrained by 6GB I/O channels. Putting this much capacity behind such an interface doesn't seem like a great idea for any workload that would expect performance, when you could accomplish the same thing for less money and much faster throughput with separate devices.
you will be needing [this] (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-850-PRO-2-5-Inch-MZ-7KE1T0BW/dp/B00LF10KTE/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1525068119&sr=1-2&keywords=1tb+ssd&refinements=p_n_feature_three_browse-bin%3A6797521011%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_four_browse-bin%3A6158693011%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_five_browse-bin%3A7688215011)
The 850 pro is now selling for $549.99 on Amazon. That's only $150 more than the 840 evo, and you're getting a pro instead of an evo, an 850 instead of an 840, and a guarantee the performance won't decrease. As for whether the 850 evo will be better, I heard it'll be cheaper and have bigger than 1 tb size options, but that the pro should still edge it out in durability/performance.
The price drop has been nuts recently, so there's definitely something in the air.
Or just nab two 850 Pros
About a fifth of the read/write speeds but still ridiculously fast and only like 1/10th of the price
Though I can understand the need for the higher read/write speeds in some situations

Got this puppy on the way - gonna purchase a new PS4 along with it to ensure any of the recent performance errors I've had aren't my console.
Here's the beast:

I just built this:
Parts:
Peripherals:
Album:
for nearly the exact same purpose and it's incredible. So if you plan on overclocking get the i7-6700k. Otherwise get the i7-6700.
(Price for new items , in GBP):
I can find them from 200 up to 400 but there are also many good ones in between there too. Like this one
I dunno if it's a good idea to buy SSD used, but I wouldn't.. There might be cheaper retailers than Amazon too but I'm not all too sure about that.

Why is there such a big price difference in SSDs? Is there a big enough difference between these two to make up for the cost?
Wasn't this exact one but there is plenty to choose from :)

That puts you at 16k. Get 2 more SSDs for the caching slots. We are using 128 GB ssds since they don't need to be large. This set up is shared between 3 Dell R420 servers. With a total of 70 VMs (55 Windows 7, 15 server 2012/2008)
It is still important to backup. We use Unitrends to backup all of our machines.
ok i wait for black friday
but what is the difference between this 2 samsung SDD?
