A chromecast is $35. It'll do everything you said except for the blurays.

If you just can't ditch the disks, looks like this will do the job on the cheap

You can pick up a smart-bluray player for pretty cheap.

I have this in my living room for my dumb tv. Have a ps3, the controllers stopped working or something... I dunno. It just collects dust now.

You could probably get them on board with this. Plays DVDs, Bluray, has Wifi, has Netflix (and Hulu and Amazon, and I'm sure other stuff). Comes with an actual remote (none of them are going to know how to use a controller).
