Well first of all i'm from EU and the X costs 1159€ here. Just look on ebay (that's where i got mine from) https://www.ebay.es/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xgalaxy+s8.TRS0&_nkw=galaxy+s8&_sacat=0 you can find brand new S8 on the range of 530 - 550 easily and here on EU that's half of what the X costs.

If you are from NA look at amazon https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S8-Unlocked-64GB/dp/B06Y14T5YW/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1510623910&sr=1-1&keywords=galaxy+s8&dpID=417dUvGor3L&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch 520$ for a S8.

You cannot seriously compare buying a phone off Swappa to a phone for $500 new.

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S8-Unlocked-64GB/dp/B06Y14T5YW

If you did a quick amazon search you would’ve found this as the first result.

u/Pok1971 · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

plus, one thing to remember is that, while on paper the switch is less powerful than current smartphones, it's also selling at a much lower price. at the moment a galaxy s8 is 600 dollars on amazon

but usually selling at over 700 dollars, while the switch is less than half of that at 300 dollars

How much was your insurance? I'm going to assume $10/mo. That's $240 in insurance plus $99, so $340 to get a replacement unit.

Looks like you can get a "renewed" S8 on Amazon for $260 right now, two day Prime shipping. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Unlocked-Smartphone-Carriers/dp/B0786PRKBP/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_107_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=C2T9X2E767BP1ZDC47QW or $377 new https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y14T5YW/ref=dp_cr_wdg_tit_nw_mr This is a little over two years since the phone was new, just like your example.

Then you could have sold your broken one for at least a little on eBay or wherever. Pretend that's at least $37. I would guess more but just for the sake of it.

You would have come out ahead if you didn't have insurance, even if you got a new one as a replacement instead of a refurb.

And if you hadn't dropped and broken the phone at all, you would have come out way more ahead. GF and I have only had one phone actually drop and break in our many years of heavy smartphone use, and that was a Moto X with no case back in 2014. With quality cases, phones don't break from dropping unless you do something insane or have really really bad luck.

So, the only time you'd come out behind, hand-waving some numbers, would probably be if you didn't use a case and broke it due to negligence (ie not something covered under warranty) within the first year or so while replacement value was still high.

Yes, it is. Take a look at a random, high demand electronic device https://www.amazon.com/Apple-iPhone-Plus-Unlocked-Phone/product-reviews/B06XTKMWV9/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_show_all_top?ie=UTF8&reviewerType=avp_only_reviews

17% are 1 star

or here, https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S8-Unlocked-64GB/product-reviews/B06Y14T5YW/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_show_all_top?ie=UTF8&reviewerType=avp_only_reviews

14% are 1 star and over 20% would be considered critical.

Like I said already, people are most likely to not leave a review at all if they are happy with their purchase. The people leaving great reviews are apparently so happy with their purchase they break from the norm and leave their glowing reviews and the critical reviews come from the minority that have had problems. And there are a far larger percentage of the unhappy customers that will leave a review than any of the other groups.

Yes and it's 64gb built in - not sure how much space you need but I'm about 1/2 capacity and I've had the phone for about 2 years. You can play on max settings, no lag or issues ever so far

Wow I came here to ask about the same thing. I'm not really a fan of the Samsungs UI I've seen in previous models and generally prefer stock Android but with the Pixel 2 not having the 3.5mm jack I'm looking at the S8 or Pixel 1.

Amazon currently has the unlocked S8 for $575 which is actually what prompted me to come here.

Seems like a good deal but I can't decide if it's worth putting up with Samsung's UI...

I'm also not considering a Motorola because Lenovo...

u/Zokatz · 2 pointsr/mintmobile

You might get random calls or texts from people you don’t know from the previous owner of the number.

Have you decided which sub $200 phone you are going to go with? You might want to look at a used or new Essential Ph-1 Used (Amazon)|Renewed by Amazon. After software updates it’s a pretty good phone from what I hear. Other than that, you may want to look at either new Motorola’s (Amazon) or a used LG G6/G7/V20/V30 or even a used Samsung Galaxy S7 or S8 Used S8(Amazon)|Renewed S8(Amazon).

Country/network? Budget?

Can't beat Moto X4 on the low-mid range right now. $165 or $225 depending on ram/storage configuration. Nokia 7.1 is a slight upgrade over the X4 but a decent pick at $350 assuming you aren't on Verizon or Sprint. Galaxy S8 is still pretty solid at $430 or it could be found for less on Swappa.

  1. Is it for the country that you live in? Make sure to get the right version as not all S8 unlocked phones are created equal.

  2. Here is the price history on Amazon https://camelcamelcamel.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S8-Unlocked-64GB/product/B06Y14T5YW showing you the loest prices (best deals) for it in the past. You probably already know that as we get closer to S9's release S8 prices are going to take a dive since S8 will no longer be the current flagship.

Amazon. “Liquid deals”.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y14T5YW/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Though when I ordered it it had prime shipping.

Its verizon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y14T5YW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 and this is the one I'm looking at. Changed from Best Buy to Amazon due to a price spike lol

>Also the new Galaxy S8 is over$1000 itself, and nobody is complaining about that just because hating Apple is cool.

Uhhhhhh, no, it isn't.

Regardless of that, people dislike Apple because they CONSTANTLY take shit that already exists, throw their price premium on it and tout it as their own, which I really hope I don't have to explain to you exactly why it's scummy, hell, if you don't believe me watch the iPhone X reveal.

Quite literally NOTHING is 'new' aside from the facial recognition unlocking system which even then, facial recognition has existed and you wanna know why it's not used in other devices? because it's not even close to perfect. There's very obvious issues and/or potential loopholes and this is precisely why modern smartphones are going with the fingerprint scanner route - yet good ol' Apple decides 'hey let's just take this not even remotely new idea, claim it as our own and ditch the alternative that functions better!'.

Whilst yes there's most definitely a stigma behind circlejerk hating Apple but IMO it's completely justified with the constant bullshit they pull, furthermore the average Apple fan is completely oblivious to all of this yet they'll be bashing Android devices 10 minutes later - despite knowing virtually nothing. Not to mention the whole 'blindly buying devices just because they say 'Apple' on them'.

Samsung Galaxy S8 unlocked off amazon. I've had mine for the same duration that I had my first Moto X Pure(also died from battery death). S8 has outlived the X Pure by a year.

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Factory-Unlocked-Smartphone/dp/B06Y14T5YW/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=galaxy+s8%2B&qid=1574983012&sr=8-3

u/fjodsk · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

The better model is.

That is a flagship price. When the S8 has a similar price to a phone, it's a fucking flagship.

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-64GB-Unlocked-Phone/dp/B06Y14T5YW

It's not full flagship price and I have to agree a little bit with you, but it's still a flagship price imo

u/Mitch_from_Medford · 1 pointr/Android

They are very comparable. (In the U.S.) The S8 costs $500 on Amazon. I just bought the LGV30 new from Walmart.com for $480. You can get both phones cheaper than that but I wasn't willing to buy through Ebay. These phones have similar specs and price, it comes down to preference and I like LG overall better than Samsung.

u/alexefi · 1 pointr/askTO

how do i check it? Im looking at this and its still $300 cheaper than if i get it from Virgin. Even more cheaper if i ship it to myself in US during one of my trips.

u/ShadyPotato445 · 1 pointr/GalaxyS7

You can get an S8 for $500 or an S9 for $620

EDIT: You can also trade-in your current S7 to Samsung and get a bunch of cash from it.

u/MikeBackAtYou · 1 pointr/Android

An unlocked 64 GB Samsung Galaxy S8 currently sells for $718 on Amazon. The iPhone X 64 GB is currently selling for $1000.

$1000 - $718 = $282. I rounded up to $300, my bad.

Based on what you are looking for is a high end phone. The [Samsung s8] (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S8-Unlocked-64GB/dp/B06Y14T5YW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1502411534&sr=1-2&keywords=samsung+s8&linkCode=ll1&tag=phones0b87-20&linkId=1cebd793ede0d604658f60f915c22efc) has some for the best specs you would want in a phone.
