I've never really researched the low profile usb drives, but he is right, and they are not too expensive:

Just ran a test on a 64GB Samsung, while its not 1:1 comparable because it has twice the capacity, you can clearly see how absurdly slow the Silicon Power drive is.

https://smile.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-Ultra-Flash-Drive/dp/B07855LJ99/ref=dp_ob_title_ce I got this one for $25 on sale a while back, and really like it.

could you leave this on infinitely without having to take it out (unless for recording)?

u/gauchogang · 3 pointsr/teslamotors

Thinking of getting this for my Model 3 so I can use the dashcam feature. I heard some flash drives dont work/aren't fast enough/get corrupted, what should I be looking for when buying one? What do you think of this one?

I was speaking to wikipedia sans images, but here's one on amazon for $13.

..although personally I like the sandisk fit USBs.. $30 for 128gb (but wait for a better deal..it's only a matter of time)

I just got my USB GDROM installed and use this thumbdrive after getting a recommendation here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07855LJ99/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It works very well, very happy with my purchase. If anything I wish I went with the 256GB size, but the 128 holds about 130 CDI files for me.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/TeslaModel3

No issues with this but I will say that it is not fast enough to have both music and the TeslaCam at the same time, so I have two of them, one for each.

u/syllabun · 2 pointsr/techsupport

Laptop has an USB 3.0 port so a fast and small USB drive, like this, would be a cheaper solution.

u/1new_username · 2 pointsr/techsupport

No way of adding a SATA port, but you could suggest switching to a USB drive like one of these:

https://smile.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-Ultra-Flash-Drive/dp/B07855LJ99/

instead of the SD Card or getting one of these and putting a micro sd in it so it wouldn't stick out:

u/Stryker412 · 2 pointsr/nvidiashield

Just get one of these.

I bought the 32gb version of this usb for my Dashcam, but it worked for about a day and hasn't worked since. I know others have had success with the 128gb version but just wanted to check before I bought, and to see if people have had better luck with others.

Thanks, will do.

Regarding following the bleemsync steps to just deploy the kernel, am I right I just need to follow steps 1-13?

Also regarding using the OTG splitter cable approach, am I right to assume this would allow *all* usb sticks to work? so no power draw issues at all?

Below the otg cable and usb stick I'm thinking of purchasing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07M83762Y/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A2CBW8FNZCDSJI&psc=1

SANDISK Cruzer Glide Flash Drive 64GB USB 2.0 (via Target) worked for me without power mod or hub. I had it filled to about 32GB. I can't confirm if it works when filled past 32GB.

SanDisk 128GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive - SDCZ430-128G-G46 (via Amazon) worked for me (without power mod or hub) when filled to about 32GB but stopped working when I added a ton of new games to it. Sorry, I'm not sure at what capacity it stopped working. I did the power mod on port #2 and now everything works flawlessly with this drive. I did not try it with a powered hub before doing the power mod.

In both of these cases, I'm running PSC Retroboot (standalone). I've never run Autobleem or Bleemsync.

FYI—None of my included links are affiliate links.

Edit: Also, I'm using this 5V 2.4A power supply.

u/HomeForSinner · 1 pointr/TeslaModel3

Play from the car? I'll try that.

I did just figure something out though, as I'm going back and forth trying various stuff. The larger drive will not format to FAT-32, only exFAT. I cannot get it to show up at all. The smaller drive formats to FAT-32 and I did actually just get it to show up in the car -- when I held it pressed into the USB slot, and slightly pushed to the right. I let go, it goes away. Now that sounds like a hardware problem unless it's my stick, but it's the only FAT-32 stick I have. Didn't realize the 128 GB was exFAT/NTFS only...

You have the option to use your external device as a "device storage", some apps will move there or you can just plug it in as use it as an external storage for tv shows/movies.

If you want to use your external device as a device storage, don't plug a usb 2.0 or slow hdd in it. Get a ssd or something like this

u/aagha786 · 1 pointr/ShieldAndroidTV

I have my media (mostly ripped movies) on a NAS and use PLEX on my 16GB Shield.

I bought a 128GB USB 3.1 drive (here) and made it attached storage.

The Plex web and mobile apps work fine. I don't have PlexPass, but I tried it free for 30 days. I decided not to renew because I personally didn't think the benefits were that great. Some of them include (and I'm sure there are others):

  • Movie trailers for movies you own
  • More than 5 min of playback on the mobile app

The Shield does not need to be on all the time; I let mine sleep when I'm done with it.

If you install Plex, you might also want to look into installing the Kodi app and the (PlexKodiConnect)[https://forums.plex.tv/t/plexkodiconnect-kodi-plex-integration-done-right/137555] Kodi add-on that gives you a lot of cool features.

BTW, I don't play games either, but my son and I have found a few games we like and play pretty often. The graphics are fantastic and NVidia GeForce Now is unreal.

Edit: Fixed wrong name for NVidia's service
u/snorbatrox · 1 pointr/techsupport

Definitely do not get the second one you linked - it's USB 2.0. Running an OS off of that would be miserably slow.
Since you plan to boot from it, maybe consider something low-profile like this or this so that you can leave it in your laptop while you're carrying it.

All you need to do is buy a tiny usb flash drive, load up your music and that's it! Everything works. I the SanDisk 128GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive - SDCZ430-128G-G46 for $18.99 from BestBuy today. Just ask them to price match with Amazon.

So what doesn't this do? If you love Android Auto (which I hate) then you may not like this route, but honestly, I can't see how this isn't superior to both bluetooth and AA. You can still use AA for everything else.

It works fantastic and I'm really happy with it.

u/CajunVagabond · 1 pointr/PSVR

Use the USB port in the back of the Pro for the PSVR, use a tiny black USB drive in the front port instead of a hard drive and you shouldn’t have any cables showing except when you plug in the headset.
I use this USB drive and it’s so small you can’t even see it in the front, it fits perfectly in the Pro (some are too fat).

Get a larger internal drive. Or at worst, something like this: SanDisk UltraFit. Better memory than what's in an SD card.

u/teslaxdream · 1 pointr/teslamotors

I bought this one. https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-Ultra-Flash-Drive/dp/B07855LJ99/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=sandisk+ultra+fit+128gb&qid=1559251955&s=gateway&sr=8-1

I was speaking in general. "decent USB" means good brand with good write speeds.

u/jiserrab · 1 pointr/teslamotors

Been using this USB thumb drive since March. Only seen a gray or 1/2 gray video a couple times. I’d get corrupt videos (500kb with no recordings) maybe 6 files out of hundreds that were saved. I’ve never long pressed to disable prior to removing the drive. Once I’ve reviewed the relevant footage I just delete the irrelevant videos and save the others to my computer and return the drive to car and go on recording with an empty “Saved files” folder. I’ve never deleted any files from the recently saved folder.

Edit: TM3 AWD w/EAP since September & currently on 2019.24.4.

Edit 2: so is EAP Enhanced Auto Pilot or Early Access Program? Just reading through and it dawned on me. I’m not part of Early Access Program but I do have Enhanced Auto Pilot.

-Unfortunately, Apple makes sure that you can't upgrade storage or RAM by yourself so that they can make as much money as possible. If you're really desperate on storage, you can buy a compact flash drive which sits almost flush with the laptop (like this one) or use a service like Google Drive. Then you can move your stuff over, then you'll be good on storage.

-It seems that if you're already playing games on the 4GB RAM, you should be good as long as you're not constantly adding new titles to your collection.

-As for engineering programs, I wouldn't recommend it but it seems that your MacBook is powerful enough to take it on. I would recommend that you keep the number of apps you have open to an extreme minimum while using those kinds of programs though.

-The whirring sound you hear is the fan inside. It keeps the processor cool in order to reach peak performance. That's why you hear it when you're playing games or performing demanding tasks (such as running engineering programs). It's supposed to do that, so don't worry - that means that your computer is working right!

I hope this helps!
