Super-fast transfer speeds with up to 100MB/SecEnabled for USB 3.0, this fast drive lets you transfer and store large files up to ten times faster than USB 2.0 drives.USB 3.0 enabled (backward compatible with USB 2.0)Includes Rescue PRO Deluxe file recovery software (one-year subscription offer)
I can't tell if you're serious but why would you even bother converting IDE to SATA? For $20 you can buy a USB thumb drive that's faster and has more space than any IDE drive.
I'm currently using these.
128GB because I am using only lossless files.
USB 3.0 because of transfer speed when exporting from Rekordbox.
It's a good deal, but not as huge of a deal as Best Buy wants you to think it is. The retail price is super inflated. A quick Amazon search shows a Sandusk 128gb USB 3.0 for $25 discounted from $28.00.
Much more reliable Sandisk 3.0 128 GB drive for only five bucks more: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P8XQPY4?redirect=true&ref_=s9_simh_gw_g147_i2_r

Would a flash drive work? Sandisk CZ48 128GB USB 3.0
Only $30
Sandisk is pretty good, they have security if you someone misplace your flash drive and by that I mean a password software.
sandisk
This is definitely the flash drive you want, in terms of bang for buck.
Thanks, will do.
Regarding following the bleemsync steps to just deploy the kernel, am I right I just need to follow steps 1-13?
Also regarding using the OTG splitter cable approach, am I right to assume this would allow *all* usb sticks to work? so no power draw issues at all?
Below the otg cable and usb stick I'm thinking of purchasing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07M83762Y/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A2CBW8FNZCDSJI&psc=1

Do you have Windows or Mac computer? Mac you can use the native disk utility to format.
Here is how to do it in Windows:

You shouldn't need a 3rd party program to format. That could be the source of your issues. I've also read that some people had problems with that particular flash drive.
I use this one with no problem and its cheaper (although you can't connect to iPhone): https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-Transfer-Speeds-SDCZ48-064G-UAM46/dp/B00P8XQPY4/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=sands%2Bflash%2Bdrive&qid=1569786261&sr=8-5&th=1

Sandisk 3.0 drive is the same price as the 128gb 2.0 on Amazon. Faster read write when moving to a computer.

I'm using a SanDisk Ultra 128GB. It's not their highest performance drive, but it still can prove ~4x the speed USB 2.0 can handle. You can get something faster, but it won't perform any better.

Just plug it in. be aware that the plug is a bit fat, so it may interfere with the other ports. I took the sliding outer housing off of mine so I can use all 4 ports.
A USB C hub is just to add ports to the newer macs that only have Type-C on the machine itself. Your air, like you said, already has a "normal" USB port (also called full size or Type-A if you're searching around), so you just need a flash drive or hard drive, something like this.
I've had good luck with Sandisk and PNY, but search around and see what works best for you.
What's a good 128gb flash drive?
