I use a Sansa Clip+ supports FLAC, is teeny tiny and cheap, and has really good sound quality (or so I believe, a few of my audio-obsessed friends use them - I don't think I know enough to tell the difference). It hasn't got a massive amount of storage built in, but it has a microSD slot (i believe microSD now goes to 128gb).

It doesn't require any software at all to upload/download songs to it, just acts as any other usb storage device.

The main sticking point with it would be the screen and interface I guess, having as it does a 3-colour, 1 inch display. The size, price, and FLAC support make up for it IMO though.

What size do you need? you can get something like The Sansa Clip+ which has a micro SD card slot on it so you can up the space, I did hear rumor that there is a limit on the size of the micro SD card you can put in it (i.e. it will only recognize up to a certain number of songs).

I haven't noticed any issues with one with a 16gb mSD card in. However I run it with Rockbox which may work better then the stock firmware.

I used to be someone who liked to carry around all my music on 100gb+ players then I realized it was ultimately pointless and there were a small number of artists/albums I listened too a lot more when on the move, then when I was at home I listen to a wider range of my 155gb library.

> S1 Sansa captured it perfectly.

I don't know what the above means My first thought when reading 'Sansa' was the MP3 players made by Sandisk but I googled it and this is a character on Game of Thrones, apparently.

Anyway - I think this applies to most kids. Not just girls. Just teenaged boys usually tend to disregard danger and show their presumed immortality in different ways.

San disk sansa clip or the huge amount of similar newer cheaper devices. Takes micro SD cards:

128gb micro SD card:

Or better yet just put the sd card in your phone and carry a powerbank.

Its also 1/3rd the price of an ipod, comes with a sleek set of headphones and has VERY good sound quality. I bought one for myself and one for each of my parents.

Heres the new version. Looks like it comes with an expandable card slot on top of the 8gb memory.

If you are looking for a good set of headphones I'd recommend the sennheiser CX300.

I've heard great things about the Sandisk Clip+ player, especially with the Rockbox custom firmware installed.

Looks like they don't make it anymore and carry some newer versions instead (can't comment on them), but you can still find the clip+ around the internet.
