Depending on your budget, I would recommend to max it out and basically turn it into the server version. Replace the HD with a SSD, and max out the RAM at 16 GB:

If the RAM is too much money, you can honestly do just fine with 8 GB RAM for half the cost.

The RAM is the easiest to replace, the drive takes a little more time but their are tons of videos and resources on ifixit.com and OWC.

If you want to take it a step further, you can buy the [DIY Dual Drive Kit] (https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DIYIMM11D2/) and use the SSD as your boot drive, while still being able to use the 1TB for storage.

I own an i3 6100, and the hyper threading makes such a difference.The Nvidia 1050ti is a fairly new card meaning that it won't go out of fashion in a hurry, but I have heard good things about the AMD rx 470. I don't really know much about AMD, but a 1050ti suits me just fine. The case is nice and small, and I think the only reason that the OS is so expensive, is because it's from an online shop. You can probably find a better deal in store perhaps, I'm not sure. An SSD would be impossible with the current budget, but if you're really desperate, you could swap the hard drive for one, and then get a large hard drive at a later date to store everything on, if you feel that you can survive with less space for a while. In that case, may I recommend this.
The price is the same, but it's only 120gb. So maybe a couple of games installed at a time, until you get the biggie. I've got a pretty similar build, and it can run most things. Good luck!

EDIT However, after a little bit more research, I've seen people go nuts over this thing:. It's a little slower than an i3 6100, but much cheaper. It does have hyper-threading. BUT you may need to reconsider the motherboard, as PC Part picker says you need to mess with bios updates ect ect...

If you can swing for it, or wait and save a bit more I would really recommend getting an SSD. It really is night and day performance for booting Windows, launching applications, and loading games.
Personally I refuse to ever buy another computer that doesn't have the OS on an SSD. Even if you only get 120 GB or so it would be worth it.

On Win 7, I would try to get at least 4 gigs of ram if possible, but it ultimately depends on what you're doing with it. Use Crucial's system scanner tool to see exactly how much it can handle and what type of ram it takes. It could be dirt cheap to upgrade it, it could be expensive.

I know you just replaced that hdd, but I would have recommended looking at doing an ssd instead. If its still an option, doing something like this can make a world of difference in older machines. Anything that involves the hard drive is significantly faster. So faster boot times, snappier system performance, and it's all around just better.

If you get 4 gigs of ram loaded into it, you can also use your win 7 product key to activate 10 on a clean installation and breathe some new life into it. I wouldn't recommend 10 on 2 gigs of ram though.

Also, since you used acer recovery discs, did you end up with a clean installation? Or did it reinstall factory bloat? That can make a big difference.

Amazon doesn't have a lot of options, and tbh they're kind of overpriced. But the CS1311 and SSD Plus aren't bad, only about $5 over their usual prices.

Your choice of cpu and gpu should last you for a good while for playing at 1080p 60fps with high settings.

The boot time will be night and day compared to a HDD. Furthermore you can install all your steam games etc on your HDD and if something went wrong with your windows system, just reinstall it on the SSD without downloading everything again afterwards.

The graphic specs on a laptop are always a gimmick to squeeze an extra 500 bucks.

I wasn't gonna contest this claim, but just look at this popular NVMe and a SATA SSD both by Samsung being benchmarked, and nowhere is it 5 times faster, be it read speed, write speed, random reads, whatever. This is not to mention how the gap closes in any general system with everyday tasks, including games. Also, OPs i5-7600U will bottleneck way before the m.2's "5 times faster" performance kicks in and SATA SSD starts to bottleneck.

No, I think your build is fine. I just built roughly the same build with a Ryzen 3 and get great framerates in the games you mentioned. If you can stretch maybe go for a 1050 ti, but it's not necessary. One thing that would make a world of difference would be an SSD. I have this exact one and it makes the OS super snappy. The oldest MBP is from 2006. If you don't need a lot of space then get a SATA SSD -- it will give you much better performance than a hard drive but may cost a little bit more. Would a 3.0 USB actually be better than a SSD? Because they're literally 4.5 times cheaper.

I'm looking for a small, cheap SSD to put my OS on, preferably under 50$. I've found this one, the SanDisk SSD PLUS 120GB, which meets pretty much all of my criteria. However, I have read some reviews on Amazon, even though the vast majority are postitive, complaining of slower-than-advertised speeds and bad blue-screening.

hey guys. looking to get an SSD and came across SanDisk SSD and found it on Bestbuy for local pickup. The bestbuy link does say its a laptop SSD, but its the same model as the amazon link, and i've never heard of an SSD with sata ports and psu plug in only being a laptop SSD. That'll run LOL, CS:GO, and Overwatch quite well. I wouldn't go with an SSD alone, but that's your choice. Personally, I would get a standard 1TB HDD, these can be found for $50 (Seagate and Western Digital are the recommended) and then get an SSD for booting and basic programs. Then put all of your games on the HDD.

60GB is quite limiting and you won't find any 60GB drives from reputable manufacturers these days. Go for 120GB, they're like 60 bucks.

With this set up I calculated a $257 profit at a total of 5500 H/s, 700w consumption and $0.11/kwh and a 1% pool fee.

This seems a little less than I thought and read regarding the profit, am I missing something?

Is the potential hash rate bigger than 5500 h/s or the consumption lower? (I put this value based on what I read on other forums from people with the same video card)

Any advice is welcomed, please let me know your thoughts.

Might get a few of these for my servers, seems like a decent deal. Only SSD's I've had experience so far are the sandisk ssd+ and pny cs1111. I know this gets asked every ssd thread, but how would this compare to those two? It doesn't have to be a top end SSD, mainly just gonna be used for holding VM's

I'm gutted I didn't get the 1600 for £130 a few weeks ago. I believe the 1200 will overclock to 3.8-3.9GHz and won't bottleneck the RX580 much. I was going to wait for the next ryzen CPUs to come out, then sell the 1200. I can't see much of a benefit of any upgrade below the 1600 when compared to the 1200 if I'm honest!

The RX580 would be sufficient for 100+FPS on some of the games I intend to play, especially if I reduce some of the graphics settings slightly.

I could go for the sandisk 120gb just for my OS, that was my original plan before I saw the evo 250gb for £80.

Some good options are the Samsung 850 EVO, SanDisk SSD, or the Kingston Digital. If you're looking for space and you don't mind the loss in speed you can also go with this Seagate SSHD. You can also use the stock hard drive and use an external hard drive enclosure for some extra space.

Per la dimensione 120GB imho vanno più che bene se ci affianchi un HDD capiente. Io attualmente uso un SSD da 120GB con installati tutti i programmi e un gioco (leggero). Ho anche un'altra partizione da 18GB con Kubuntu installato e mi rimane anche dello spazio libero. Non ci sto largo di certo, ma va comunque più che bene.

In ogni caso tieni conto però che gli SSD da 120GB sono più lenti in scrittura rispetto alle varianti da 250GB, se questo non è un problema allora vai di quello da 120GB.

Edit: io uso questo SSD in particolare, al prezzo attuale non lo consiglio, ma spesso lo mettono in offerta e lo si riesce a prendere a 35-40 euro.

I'd highly recommend getting a small ssd like this first. Install your operating system, and main programs and games on that. Your pc will boot in around 20 seconds instead of over a minute, and your programs will open almost instantly. Use your current harddrive as a mass storage for the rest of your games and any music/videos/photos.

What is your budget?

If you have 100$ buy a RX460, that will game on medium-high 60fps just fine.

Nothing else is worth upgrading if you are on a tight budget.
