Everyday you have to do tasks, whether it be making food, writing code, or going to your girlfriends house. Every task could be made more automated someway or another, it's just a matter of finding a way to make it more automated in a way that's cheap enough that people will buy it, but still has enough profit margins.

A tshirt isn't going to make a task easier.

This Bluetooth button however will make the task of changing songs while driving easier, and they figured out how to sell it for $30 and make a profit

If you've ever thought "Dang, I wish this was easier", there probably is a way to make it easier and people out there are willing to pay to make it easier.

I think this is a great idea and it made me think of something I use for my motorcycle.

It's very similar and available for around 30 bucks. I have it attached to the handle bar. (or steering wheel) Works with no problem.

What phone do you have? It's not the exact solution you want, but with my old Samsung Note, I used this bluetooth adapter (with an additional 3.5mm extention attachment), and had it pretty much permanently plugged into both the AUX port and USB. Then I mounted this bluetooth controller next to my shifter.


With the Iphone X, it's as simple as plugging the lightning cable into the usb port and letting your car recognize it as an ipod

While driving a motorcycle, the one thing that is probably more distracting than using a smartphone is lifting both hands, look at that itsy bitsy tini wini little screen and trying to hit anything useful with your fingers covered by motorcycle gloves.

You would need at least a smartwatch with enough proper buttons to do something useful with it. Pebbles are dying, the only other option that comes to my mind is perhaps a Samsung Gear S model, that rotating bezels should come in handy. (Might end deadly anyway.)

If you really just want to change tracks, there is another much cheaper and better solution: Get a bluetooth remote like this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RM75NL0 so you can easily fix it on your motorcycle. (Perhaps search for a water-resistant version or cover it so it doesn't get wet. Just search for "bluetooth remote" on Amazon or other sites.)

As far as a complete aftermarket retrofit, kits are absolutely available for your vehicle. Companies like PAC and Metra have them developed within one or two years after a new model vehicle is out. You can replace the whole radio while retaining OnStar, Bose speakers and amp, backup camera, and steering wheel controls. It won't be cheap, but it's the only option if you want to control Bluetooth audio with your existing steering wheel controls.

You can get a bluetooth adapter for your car and a wireless bluetooth remote button that has back, forward, up, down, play, and pause controls, and which allows you to wirelessly control your phone. There are no wires to run or really anything that takes more than 30 seconds to install. You can even put the remote button on your steering wheel. Then your phone can auto-play when you get in your car. The bluetooth adapter also includes a USB phone charger for if you want to charge your phone.

I also got a magnetic phone mount that goes in the CD slot, so I can just set my phone on the mount and use it for turn-by-turn navigation/GPS and the feature to tell me where I parked my car.

I did. The total cost for all three together was about $75, and all of this was in a mid-2000s Prius.

I used to use plugphones. I got this device for skipping tracks. Also handy to mute music if you need to talk to someone. Pricey but works really well. I stuck the button holder to my bike and just pop the button in and out. This is from UK amazon but im sure there is a US alternative.

Smart Lock gives you a few ways to bypass your lock screen. All of them compromise your security in some way, but it doesn't seem like that's your highest priority (which is totally okay, I'm the same way lol). Other than Trusted Face and Trusted Voice, there are three options:

-On-body detection: Keep your phone unlocked until you set it on a flat surface. Basically, if you're holding it or you have it in your pocket.

-Trusted Places: Keep your phone unlocked at particular locations.

-Trusted Devices: Keep your phone unlocked while it's connected to a Bluetooth or NFC device. If you use a bluetooth headset/helmet on your motorcycle, this is probably what you want. If you don't already have some bluetooth device or don't want to use a headset, you can pick up a BT button just for the sake of having a connection. Here's one and here's another

I have one of these bluetooth buttons attached to my handlebars for the same reason. It doesn't have as much functionality as the pebble, but works great for controlling music in my pocket while riding.

I can't imagine these working under a properly fitted helmet, TBH. Between the extra space needed and the control buttons...

For me one of my best purchases was a bluetooth media remote for my wheel. Gives me the ability to skip, play/pause and change volume without leaning into my footwell.

There's a couple of $150+ aftermarket modules that will plug into the radio, let you do bluetooth, and utilize the steering wheel controls. But after you've paid someone do that you're starting to get into "it might be better to replace the radio" territory.

We have JBL without navigation. Sounds great but didn't do what I wanted. I took the dash apart and mounted a tablet in front of the radio. It does:

• Music and streaming music
  
• TV and movies (VLC)
  
• Navigation (Google Maps)
  
• Additional gauges (Torque + bluetooth adapter)
  
• Web browser & email
  
• Makes calls / texts (tablet is also a phone)

And I also had a Satechi BT Button to go with it on my handlebar.

I could still hear my surroundings, and I could skip/pause/control volume as required.

The downside to this... is that when I got knocked off my bike, I came around to godsmack - good day to die playing right inside my head, and with my phone being buried deep inside an internal jacket pocket, and me being dazed and confused, I couldn't turn it off. This was far less bueno than I would have ever imagined and I've not worn in-ears since then.

I now have a Sena 20S, and wear earplugs - which has the added benefit of also protecting my hearing from windnoise, unlike in-ear headphones - and it mixes with the environment far far better overall.

It controls the play/pause, skip forward, skip back functionality just fine. Volume up and down does not work as this remote is controlling the phones volume and not the raspberry pi. (Phones volume does nothing when in android auto mode)

I will also add that the device goes to sleep after about 15mins of inactivity to save battery so it does take a couple seconds for it to wake up and re-establish a Bluetooth connection with my phone before i can pause audio.

After a quick Google, there appears to be no pause/play option for Bluetooth on the RCD310 head unit.

Unfortunately it won't work unless you have a iPhone and use the cable. I have a pixel XL 2 and got a Bluetooth media button. It works great. I stuck it behind the steering wheel for easy access. I can change track pause/play and change phone volume.

I prob should have gotten the chubby buttons as this on is a little hard to use with gloves, but doable.

Get a Bluetooth media remote.

Here's one, here's an even smaller one.

It basically works like a Bluetooth keyboard that has just media keys.

Apple Remote also works.

I'm probably going to get one when I get an amp for my phone, as that would prevent me from using an inline remote.

Finally, you could also use a pair of earbuds with an inline remote (Apple EarPods would work fine), wrap up the earbuds themselves, and use the inline remote to control your media. Macbooks actually support inline remotes.

I think I also got an 8bitDo controller/remote working but I'll have to test that & I'm not where it's at right now.

Only tried media controls with Groove, shutter remote etc unknown.

I have my phone in a mount on my dashboard using Android auto most of the time. So I do use alot of voice commands. But specifically for changing songs and volume I bought a Bluetooth controller.

It's small and slips on to your steering wheel or a vent. It's great.

My car has Bluetooth but only for calls. Not music so this was the perfect thing.

Connect it to your USB port and AUX line in. After you've paired with it once, when you turn your car on it will power up and auto-connect to your phone.
