The gel and strips are similar. They both put a coating of silicone over the scar, which keeps moisture in. If you like the strips better you can buy them online for less. Here's the large size of the brand name (use scissors to cut into strips) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KY3IOU/. A lot of people seem to be using a much cheaper tape for the same thing: https://www.amazon.com/Mepitac-298300-Soft-Silicone-Tape/dp/B002VE9AL8/ But the gel will work just as well. Whichever method you use isn't going to work miracles, but it can help to improve the scar appearance to some extent.

Scar-away. Or something like it. Silicone applied to skin melts scars. Nobody knows for sure why, but my dermatologist confirmed that this works.

I've had tons of luck with this myself. Basically, Scar-away is a bandage that's covered with silicone instead of adhesive. It's got the highest concentration of silicone of anything I've found. Most store bought things only have 2% silicone and 98% moisturizer, so they don't work as well. Granted, keeping a fresh wound moisturized will keep it from scarring as badly, so you should do that, but the bio-oil stuff just doesn't work as well as this.

I just checked on amazon, they run the same (though what seems like a similar deal also goes for $31 and $75?!?!?! That's what I was thinking of when I first saw your post).

I prefer the scar away long scar strips. I get them on Amazon for like $35 (12 in a pack). Cut them lengthwise and use one on each scar. You can reuse them usually like 4-5 times if you wash and dry them. They’re also good to keep your scars out of the sun for the first year post-op while still being shirtless.
