I can't stand shaving bare personally, it feels nice for like half an hour and then turns into an itchy stubbly mess. For me using an electric trimmer gets me nice, clean, uniformly trimmed pubes with minimum effort.

My whole lezbro crew swears by this cheap Schick electric trimmer that you can pick up for $10-15 at most drug stores.

They also have it in black / blue / silver next to the dude's razors if you don't want it in "HEY EVERYONE DID YOU KNOW I HAVE TITS" pink.

Basically my routine is:

  • Exfoliate your bits in the shower (I just gently scrub with a washcloth).
  • Let dry completely (a hair dryer on cool can help here), then grab the trimmer.
  • Ignore the standard cartridge razor end.
  • Set the guard on the trimmer end to your preference (might wanna start with the longest setting and see how you like it, then redo on a shorter guard if you need).
  • Turn trimmer on and go to town. Can't really hurt yourself with this thing. Just comb it through the hair repeatedly until it's trimmed. Take extra care to get the hairs right where your thigh meets your groin as these can be easily missed. You'll need to shake / blow hair out of the trimmer every now and then, especially if you're starting with a full bush.
  • Once everything's nice and trimmed, I like to pop in the shower again and just wash one more time to rinse away any loose hairs. I also like to apply some conditioner like you do on your head to soften the hair (I dunno if this actually does anything tbh, but I figure it won't hurt).
  • Dry again, powder the groin area to keep everything nice and dry throughout the day (I like Lush's silky underwear dusting powder but pretty sure it's just nicely scented talc).
  • That's it! Woohoo!

You might miss a few hairs, if so no big deal. You'll probably catch them next time you trim, and if you don't wanna wait you can use a pair of scissors or tweezers to get the offenders.

You might be able to get a nicer experience with a more expensive bikini trimmer, but none of us have ever felt the need to upgrade. This thing is cheap as hell, and mine has been ticking for like 3 years (I do take it apart every few months and clean / oil the blades).

    Good luck!

Yes! Or you get one of those fancy razors with a trimmer on the back...

u/markthesharkisdead · 7 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I use the shick quattro electric trim blade.http://www.amazon.com/Schick-Quattro-Trimstyle-Bikini-Trimmer/dp/B001TH8Q72

Fantastic.

Edit: I used to use scissors but sometimes I'd cut myself. Ouch! Plus, this is much faster/easier clean-up.

I use a Schick Quattro Bikini Trimmer. It gets crazy close, I love it.

u/bobapanda · 5 pointsr/AskWomen

I recommend the Schick Quattro bikini trimmer. You can adjust the blades to trim at several different lengths, it's easy to use (just press a button to turn on!), and works quite well.

You don't have to completely shave if you're uncomfortable with hair! Get an electric razor like this and just trim. (:

I use this. I put it at the shortest setting, and i get probably a 1/4 inch cut. You could definitely get a 1/2 inch cut.

u/HerzBrennt · 2 pointsr/AskMenOver30

Not gonna lie, my wife's $10 schick with a trimmer on it. Works pretty well, it's lightweight, compact, and the trimmer portion is adjustable. I also have sets of Wahl and Andis clippers. Depends on what I'm scaping as I'm a midget sized wookie.

u/qirtnye · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I was really hesitant to get anything like this, but a girlfriend convinced me and it really does work great. You can adjust the length you want the hair, even, which was a real plus. Ive had it about 5 months it is still working.

At the risk of sounding like a tv commercial, i very much recommend.

From a lady: they make combo trimmer/razers. Something like this. Then grab a washcloth, shave cream of choice, and (trust me on this) some gel style deodorant.

First, use the trimmer side to trim everything down short with the shortest guard setting. It doesn't have to be perfect, you're just clearing some bush so you can see the roots, so to speak. Second, hop on a warm shower, lather up, and delicately shave. As you finish a section, come by and gently scrub it with your washcloth. This will help reveal missed hairs, and I've found it reduces my chance of razor burn. When you are done with your shower, any place prone to ingrowns or chaffing gets the gel deodorant. Repeat with the washcloth and deodorant every shower, and reduce bumps and ingrowns. The key is to gently stretch the skin, not super taught, just enough to smooth things out. Don't apply a lot of pressure, and let the sharpness of the blade do the work. I find this is all too much work, and only so shave the bikini line, but trim the rest like step 1.

I'm not gonna lie - yes, the epilator hurts.

I, personally, have got used to it and I sort of weirdly enjoy the sensation now, but yeah... it's pulling out hairs really quickly, so that's what it feels like. I physically exfoliate the areas I epilate to keep ingrowns at bay (I either use a loofa / use up my old St Ives Apricot Scrub) because otherwise, yes, I do find the odd ingrown (I generally spot them before they do anything nasty, and then just nudge them out with a tweezer tip). I know some people use ice-packs to numb themselves before epilating, but I don't bother.

For "down there" I just trim (I use the schick razor doodad that has a battery-operated little shaver on the back for a bit of topiary). I'm pretty au-natural, otherwise (I epilate or shave hairs that stray outside the area I'd consider "bikini safe").

I'm a married lady. My husband knows better than to complain, and anything I do is for my own personal comfort and tastes. I think he does more "landscaping" than I do. ;)

this will help, the trimmer can trim back what's there to make it easier to shave. Go slow if you are worried and take your time.

I use this. It's pretty much the best thing ever. I found it at Walmart for like 10 bucks.

u/travellinben · 1 pointr/travel

I backpack travel full time, so I use one these types that are sold everywhere now : http://www.amazon.com/Schick-Quattro-Trimstyle-Bikini-Trimmer/dp/B001TH8Q72 I find it works suprisingly well, and may for you depending on your guard needs, but I normally use the shortest settings. It's really light, uses a AAA battery and breaks down small for travel.

u/Pheebalicious · 1 pointr/AskTrollX

I've used something like this but a different brand and I really liked it :)

u/jbg830 · 1 pointr/sex

I use the Schick quatrro with the electric bikini razor. And use baby powder and gentle lotion for sensitive skin.

I can't give great advice on shaving since I was never really able to master it myself. I followed all the advice you'll get, but I have rather sensitive skin and it never really worked out right.

One thing that I can suggest is the Schick bikini trimmer. When I would shave, I would trim with this first, and it helped immensely since I spent so much less time shaving and irritating my skin. Also, I found that trimming as close as it would go was perfectly fine for me - it gives you a really close trim when you take the plastic guard off.

Then I discovered waxing. If you have the money to spend (depending on where you live, probably $45-75 per month), it is really the best option. It gets so incredibly smooth. Add some Bikini Zone or something similar to prevent bumps (which will be a lot less than what you'll get after shaving). Also, note that the first time will probably hurt a lot, but don't let this deter you. Each time you go back hurts drastically less. If you can get through the first wax, your fine for the rest.

Hi there. I have hirsutism from PCOS, so I pretty much have the same problem as you. This year I bought the first swimsuit I actually feel pretty good in. (Yeah, I know, Walmart.) I kind of have a double-whammy with showing my tummy too because I have colitis and it often gets a bit swollen--and I'm very very pale with dark hair. Yay! :(

For my arms, I use a trimmer like this and trim the hair down, then bleach it. The bleach really doesn't last too long in the summer--maybe a week tops if I'm lucky. But it's the closest thing I can get to looking decent, and I can't afford laser hair removal.

u/VickHasNoImagination · 1 pointr/AskWomen

I got this for trimming about two years ago and never looked back. I usually take off the extender thingy and do a very close trim. It's perfect for all the tiny places down there.

Oh and it's much better than shaving because I never get those ingrown hairs anymore.

what worked for me what getting an electric trimmer. [this one]
(http://www.amazon.com/Schick-Quattro-Trimstyle-Bikini-Trimmer/dp/B001TH8Q72) is super awesome, takes no time at all and gets the hair so short that it's not an issue in the bedroom with oral and stuff, haha, plus i just like my pubes like this. no razor bumps, but still hair. perfectly in the middle!

u/keepitanonymous · 1 pointr/todayilearned

Trim? This is pretty legit.

u/treason_and_plot · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I stay away from razors in general for my nether regions, and have had good luck with the Schick Quattro Trimstyle (https://www.amazon.com/Schick-Quattro-Trimstyle-Bikini-Trimmer/dp/B001TH8Q72/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1499892235&sr=8-2&keywords=schick+quattro+trimstyle). I only use the trimmer, and love it--it has a protective cover that you can either leave on, or remove to get a closer trim. Occasionally I will splurge and get a wax, but that's rare. I've never had any skin issues using the trimmer.

*Edited to add that I have had the same trimmer for over 5 years, and it's still going strong--all it needs is a battery change every few months, depending on how often I use it, and a quick rinse after using it.

u/zay1414 · 1 pointr/sex

i use this with shaving cream. I trim it first then shave and it comes out great!

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/AskReddit

my bf uses the clipper (not blade side) of this

There must be a male equivalent to this somewhere.
