>when one person makes some pretty extreme claims

One? See the (editorial) reviews.

>that disagree with a very well established body of scientific work

What "well established body of scientific work" does it disagree with?

>and supports these claims by means of experiments that other people can't replicate

Can't replicate?

>It is especially unlikely when the thing they lay claim to (telepathy, for example) is something that would be of great interest to a lot of people if it were true. If his experiments and claimed results struck more people as believable then there would be more people trying to replicate them.

Except for the fact that the experiments have been replicated ad nauseam for more than half a century at least, and the experimental data carried the day even back in the early 1950s

Additionally see the articles under the subheading "Telepathy & ESP" here. The evidence is indeed overwhelming already, and more research is being carried out all the time despite poor funding being available. Why do you say that the evidence isn't there, when you haven't even investigated the proposed evidence? It's the very definition of letting an assumption play the role as a fact just because it backs up your a priori bias ;)

Take care man <3 This is not a personal attack on you, I'm just stating it for all to see.

>is it possible for the concept of mysticism to be relevant to philosophy in some way?  Is there any contemporary work on mysticism that is worth investigating?

Not only is it possible, but some would argue that it is inevitable and necessary. And yes, there is a lot of it, but these days it is regarded as going under the umbrella of survival research. Here is an article that elaborates on that point and on the current state of affairs regarding survival research, although it has begun to improve a bit since the writing of that article. Additionally, here are the best books written by a philosopher on these topics (1, 2, 3).
