I use a Scosche MagicMount.

I stick it to the passenger side dash. It sticks firmly and hasn't fallen off and the magnets are strong enough to hold the phone very securely. Obviously this won't work if you have a 17+ with a fuzzy dash, but I like this mounting position because it keeps the phone from interfering with the radio and HVAC controls and the cockpit is snug enough that reach is not a problem. It's also a convenient location to run a charge cable from the glovebox 12V.

In response to you and /u/StuckXJ, it looks like this mount. I have this one mounted on my windshield for my AP since it has a built in magnet and it works extremely well.

I use this, MagicMount. It’s placed above the A/C vent on the left side. I prefer this one since it does not block any vents and is a perfect spot. A quick glance to the left and you can see everything.

Magic mount with a suction cup has always done me well. Bonus for only having a flat metal plate on the back of the phone, unlike the magnetic ball mounts.

I use this. Best mount I've used so far.

Here's one that uses magnetic attachment so easier to place and remove, but very sturdy while in use.

Curious, were you just going to record with camera app or did you have an app you were planning on using?

I use this mount

I like magnetic ones because you just slap your phone on and you don't have to wiggle it in. And you don't have to worry about how big your phone is. Heck mine is able to hold up a tablet .

I have a suction cup mount with a magnet for my phone. There's a metal plate in my phone case. It holds my phone great. No issues through my Speck case for my iPhone 6s. It's small and doesn't block the windshield.

I love it. It comes with two metal plate things and both have a sticky back. I didn't stick it on, but rather let it "float" in the back of my case.

My wife has one too, same setup. It holds her iPhone 6s+ and that's quite heavy.

Also, it has a cord hook on the bottom, so the cable is always within reach and attached to the mount. Highly recommended.

Unless you have a very textured dash surface or no flat space to mount it have you tried just using the suction cup? I've been using this Scosche mount for a couple of years and I just have to resecure the mount every few months at most.
