If you're having problems with the elastic slipping, if you can track down these guys, that problem will be solved. They're rubbery, so they grip really nice, I'm in Canada and got mine at Rexall.

You could also braid tightly, then twist that braid into a knot. Or make a bun by twisting all your hair and securing with a wide, stretchy headband.
