This must be the week for facial oil reviews, because I have one of my own!

Rave: Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil: Last week, I over-exfoliated really badly. My face was covered in sandpapery welts, and it stung, burned and itched like a mofo. When I wasn't thinking about the itchy agony that made me want to dig big furrows across my face with my nails, I was super depressed every time I thought about how my pulverized moisture barrier was going to lead to a fresh outbreak of acne and PIH souvenirs.

After three days of self-flagellation, I was like, "Fuck it. I'm just gonna try out my new Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil, because it's supposed to be a miracle worker that regenerates and heals skin, and the Amazon reviewers seem to use it as a 2-in-1 vaginitis treatment/sexytime lubricant, bleeding skin sore treatment and horsefood, and really, what difference does using a little vaginitis lube on my face make at this point?" I mixed two drops into my moisturizer, smeared the orange sherbet-colored mixture onto my face and called it a night. After a minute or two, I started getting a weird tingly itching in 2-3 patches of my over-exfoliated ground beef face. I was still all, "fuck it!", rolled over and went to sleep.

The next morning, my skin didn't feel as rough. The places on my face that had itched and tingled had calmed down the most. In fact, they were almost back to normal. "Surely, Plume," I said to myself, "this is a coincidence? The eye of the zit tornado?" It was not. Within three days, my over-exfoliation was completely healed, and I had not had a single breakout!

The only downside? The color is a dark, dark orange and it stains. Really really stains. Even two drops in my moisturizer temporarily made me the colour of a boiled hot dog.

TL;DR If you have over-exfoliated, or your skin is being an arsehole, Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil (not seed oil—berry oil) is what you need.

I've never heard of that soap before, but here is what I've found regarding ingredients:

> The active ingredient, Seabuckthorn Oil, is clinically proven to kill the Human Demodex parasite. Made from natural plant extracts that were developed to deal with the causes of ugly skin such as redness, enlarged pores, acne, skin blotches and premature aging. Neat Soap Flakes, Seabuckthorn (hippophae rhamnoides) oil, coconut oil, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera), glycerin, sodium silicate, astragalus membranaceus, spirodela polyrrhiza, tocopherol (vitamin E), protein hydrolysate, fragrance.

This differs from what the other user found regarding ingredients. Which one does your soap match? It only really matters because my list has a higher concentration of sea buckthorn oil than the other.

In either case, if sea buckthorn oil is truly the active ingredient, seems like you'd get more bang for your buck by buying that alone. From the way these ingredient lists are arranged, you can see that the manufacturer actually used a soap base and added the sea buckthorn oil after the fact. The good news is, that means it wasn't saponified and it will retain whatever beneficial properties it may have. The bad news is, putting it in a soap base at probably <5% means you are seriously overpaying for the apparent active ingredient. (Note that coconut oil was added as well, and that can be comedogenic for some.)

Do you have any personal experience with OCM or moisturizing with a carrier oil? Any idea how your skin reacts to things like neem oil, for instance? I freaking love neem oil for facial acne, though it smells like an Indian food truck on a humid day.

I haven't been able to find any info from a non-biased or reliable source about sea buckthorn oil being a proper antiparasitic. It is a great antioxidant, but so are many other products that are cheaper.

This is something I used multiple times myself and does wonder for all sorts of scar minimization - sea buckthorn oil. It's not very common in north america as it is primarily grows in europe and asia but if you can get your hands on it via online (i.e. http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Buckthorn-Berry-Oil-1-76-Ounces/dp/B004BKLHFW) it works wonders. It helped me recover from severe scars from burns. Usually apply twice a day for a few weeks to the affected area. Staying out of sun and all the other tips still apply.
