I'm pretty sure it will not work. Play anywhere is only applicable to digital downloads.
*Edit: If you look on Amazon's Store Page you can see the cover art for the physical and digital version. On the physical version cover art it clearly says "Xbox One Console Exclusive" but if you look at the digital release cover art it says "Full game - for both Xbox one &Windows 10 PC"

You have to realize though as an "mmo" sort of thing, they can release this before releasing all the planned features so you can start playing early.
I think is going to be released sooner than anyone thinks.
Also even if it only has what was shown in the demo, that looks a ton of fun.
