Seiko SKX009K2 Diver

Price: $207-220

Movement: Automatic, 7S26B

Style: Diver

Size: 42mm

Link: Amazon

Description: Water resistant to 200m. An automatic diver at only ~$200 is a crazy deal, and with Seiko you do not have to worry about quality.

u/adamscottama · 14 pointsr/Watches

In this price range, it's probably going to be a dive watch and most likely a Seiko or Orient. Here are a few:

u/bryans14 · 12 pointsr/Watches

Invicta is not going to be recommended on this sub. They generally are pretty bad watches.

Common suggestions here would be a Seiko 5, or a Seiko diver.

Here are some Seiko watches to consider:

  • Military Style Seiko 5

  • Diver Seiko SKX009

Both watches are pretty small so they would work well on a tiny wrist. Hope I helped!

Also, for more information you can check the buying guide in the sidebar.

Seiko Automatic Dive watches are pretty good. They're over $150 but if you have discounts or sales that price can be knocked down. Amazon selling some right now for about $155 - $190.

You won't find a lot of cooperation for fakes. "Homage" watches however will fair better. Some divers:

Seiko Pepsi Diver

OK... this is an often-visited topic here. Most high-end watches are mechanical movements, but many non-watch people wear quartz watches. (here is the section of the FAQ that explains this)

If mechanical sounds good to you, the go-to suggestions for cheap blue-dialed diver's watches are:

u/Memeuchub · 5 pointsr/RepTime

At the 250 price point, you're not going to be hitting the acceptable level of reps - especially for Omega, Rolex, Tudor etc. You'll be getting a rep that fools most, but will probably have a poor bracelet with an unreliable Asian movement.

I'd suggest these Seikos:
Option 1
Option 2
Option 3
Option 4
Option 5

These are of my taste, of course - so you could look around yourself.

If you're insinuating that Invicta copied the Rolex Submariner, I can tell you that Invicta is not the only one to imitate that design:

Seiko - http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKX009K2-Divers-Automatic-Watch/dp/B000OP1M6M

Citizen - http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-BN0000-04H-Eco-Drive-Professional-Rubber/dp/B000EQS1RO

They're called "diving watches": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diving_watch

Here's a good video on how they work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaHSADVB9Ag

EDIT - As a watch enthusiast, I wouldn't call Invicta's diving watch a copy or replica. I would call it an "homage" to the Submariner.

Orient's parent company is the Seiko Epson Corporation, and does not have any interaction with the Seiko watch division (as I understand it.) Orient uses their own in-house movements.

Given that you will be using the watch at the beach, I would want a watch with a screw down crown, so I would choose the Orient over that particular Seiko. However, you can get a Seiko SKX diver for around the same price on Amazon, which I happen to like better, and there are a good number of aftermarket bracelets specifically made for it available.

Hey friends,

Currently posting my Seiko SKX009K2 (42mm) from late 2015 with jubilee strap and navy/red NATO. As soon as I got this watch, I swapped out the jubilee for an Oyster bracelet I purchased on Amazon; this bracelet looked phenomenal, but installation was a huge pain and the springs frequently popped off. After numerous replacements and adjustments, I gave up on the Oyster and swapped it for a navy/red NATO that matches the dial as shown in the pictures. The jubilee the watch came with has literally never been used before. This watch got a ton of wrist-use when it was on the bracelet, but once I swapped it to the NATO things just weren’t the same for me unfortunately. I also don’t like jubilee bracelets. As I mentioned in another post, I’m downsizing my collection for a “grail” purchase so there isn’t actually anything wrong with the watch.

Some info about the watch itself:

  • Stainless steel round case, 42mm diameter and 13mm thick

  • Automatic movement (Seiko Caliber 7S26) with 40 hour power reserve

  • Day-date at 3 o’clock with Spanish option

  • 200m water resistant

  • Solid case back

  • Rotating diver unidirectional bezel

  • Has some scuffs on the back as you can tell from the included picture

  • Comes with the original box and packaging inserts

  • Oyster bracelet was totally broken, but it does include the original jubilee bracelet as well as the replacement NATO in the pics

As I mentioned above, the Oyster bracelet was a huge pain to install and remove. I loved the bracelet, but I was disappointed by the quality. Maybe I just got unlucky with the product because it has really good reviews on Amazon, but when I got a replacement I actually took it to a watch shop to get it installed and he had just as much of a hard time as I did installing it. Just something to be aware of.

Currently asking for $125 shipped to continental USA OBO. Let me know what you think!
u/bobbyyouspeakenglish · 3 pointsr/Watchexchange

tough without more specifications. what kind of style are you looking for?
regardless, i think this seiko is a steal at 150.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OP1M6M/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2Q4B5TSEYWBXR&coliid=I6R21D7J8A7TV

u/Uptons_BJs · 3 pointsr/Watches

I mean, ok, if we were to compare Orient and Seiko, I think Orient wins overall.

For instance, the Orient Ray II is $159:
https://www.amazon.com/Orient-Japanese-Automatic-Stainless-Diving/dp/B01AK5TQE0/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1510583470&sr=1-1&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=orient+ray+II

The Direct Seiko Competition (SKX009) is $203:
https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKX009K2-Divers-Automatic-Stainless/dp/B000OP1M6M/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1510583493&sr=1-1&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=seiko+skx

The Orient gets you a bit better bang for the buck with hacking and handwinding. Something that the Seiko doesn't give you. Now if we look at the look at Seiko's cheaper option, the SNZF15 at $139:

https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-Stainless-Steel-Automatic-SNZF15/dp/B001ELSSOO/ref=sr_1_16?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1510583493&sr=1-16&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=seiko+skx

The Seiko SNZF15 doesn't hack or handwind, has only 100m water resistance, and although I haven't seen the two side by side, I'm willing to bet that Orient has slightly better quality materials/finishing than the Seiko 5.

Now the amusing thing about the Invicta is this, it uses Seiko's own movement that they use for $200-800 watches, yet they pack it in watches that come in under $100. Their quality and materials aren't even that bad, no worse than Seiko 5!

u/firematt422 · 3 pointsr/Watches

I'm the proud owner of both an SKX007 and a 009, and I wholeheartedly recommend them.

I also own an Orient Blue Ray, which is a very nice watch. I think I prefer the SKXs to them though, I think they have an overall cleaner look and the bezel action is a lot smoother. I don't think you can go wrong at all really though with any of these.

Another one you could consider:

Citizen Promaster

u/jimmythesaint · 2 pointsr/Watches

Huckberry has some interesting finds but unless they are the only source for the product expect to pay a premium for it.

They'll take a Seiko diver watch slap a worn&wound leather band on it and write some flowery prose about how that watch was worn by Robert Redford in a movie and expect to pay $320 for something you could have done for ~$200

voila

u/Surgikill117 · 2 pointsr/Watches

I like those, but I just bought this. The pepsi bezel won me over, and I like automatic watches, not electric.

u/ZN4STY · 2 pointsr/Watches

Got it:

Its a seiko5

first a seiko automatic

Second, a slightly larger seiko

u/narcism · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

What leathers do you wear more often? See, in my opinion, if you're rolling with brown shoes, brown belt, you're going to look silly with a black leather watch.

What are your thoughts on rolling with something silver? (presuming you don't wear gold)

u/throwaraelien · 2 pointsr/Watches

If I was 17? I'd get a cheap reliable automatic diver on a bracelet. They have a nice look that will match basically anything you wear and you don't have to worry about getting them wet. Maybe an Orient Mako, Ray, or Seiko SKX007/09 or Stargate (would have to shop around to get it at your price range, but I've seen an SRP491 go for $210.)

Links:

Orient Mako Cheaper at Long Island Watch though, even after the usual orient coupon codes.

Orient Ray Also cheaper at Long Island

SKX007 and SKX009 are out of stock at all my usual haunts. I used amazon links but I don't know anything about the sellers - shop around and buy the seller, then the watch..

So I'm not trying to be rude or anything, just genuinely curious. Is there any major difference between this watch and this one: amazon link

I'm not too sure what this watch goes for used, so I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks!

u/HeyLookImIrrelevant · 1 pointr/Watches

I got it from here!

The main reason why I chose this particular one was because they offered some good two- and one-day shipping options, if that's what you want. The other sellers, while it may be cheaper, takes weeks to ship to Canada.

u/Thnewkid · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I would reccomend an orient bambino for slightly more formal wear. Their ine of divers would also look god for daiy wear.
http://www.amazon.com/Orient-ER24004B-Bambino-Automatic-Mechanical/dp/B008VBUZDW

Seiko 200m Divers are also a great every day choice for a more casual watch. http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKX009K2-Divers-Automatic-Watch/dp/B000OP1M6M/ref=sr_1_4?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1427746893&sr=1-4&keywords=seiko+dive

If you don't like any of these, I reccommend looking around online. Wornandwound.com has a good database of watch reveiws, some of which fit your budget and you can always check /r/watches .

u/Ignivomous · 1 pointr/malelifestyle

A few I recognized, but may not be perfectly accurate:

Tudor Matte Bezel

Marathon Diver

Bond Submariner

Seiko Pepsi

Aevig Orange

u/ABathingChampion · 1 pointr/FashionReps

Hell yea. Question tho. I ordered the one with the rubber strap, rather than the jubilee. I didn't wanna pay an extra 25$ for that bracelet. Should I have shelled out the extra cash for it? My plan was to throw it on a black or blue NATO. It's not too late to cancel and opt for the bracelet version (if it's worth it)

edit: I bought this one and not this one

u/WeaklingThrowAway1 · 1 pointr/Watches

At this point i'm just trying to establish a collection from nice watches that will last me a while. Right now I only have an Invicta Aviator Tritnite, but I am looking to expand to different ones. I found several watches that interest me from a simple aesthetic stand point, such as this bulova as well as this other Bulova 97B151 and this Seiko diver, but I am not sure if they are good watches to stem a collection off of.

u/Kymon · 1 pointr/Watches

I purchased mine on Amazon. The sellers can vary. You can follow this link.

What's a good, masculine, automatic diver's watch for a TINY wrist?

It's a gift for my girlfriend. I like mens watches on ladies, but many can be too big or, in the alternate, look like they were made for women. I'm looking for something mid-size and good quality at a price range similar to the example below.

Something like this would be perfect but I'm afraid it'll be too big for my girlfriend's wrist:

A Seiko SKX009 has the advantage of being a similar vibe, but not looking like an imitation like some people think the Alpha does.

u/IHSV1855 · 1 pointr/NavyBlazer

Wearing the same one right now, it's my go-to for every day wear. Every once in a while I'll mix it up with a SKX009, especially if it's a more casual situation.

Is there a difference between the SKX009 and 007? Is Seiko a good brand?

These watches are gonna cost me between 250$ and 350$ with shipping and taxes so if you have anything in that price range that would be better I would like to hear suggestions. Any advice for me?

u/Watches-n-warriors · 1 pointr/Watches

It looks like it is from 2001 or 2011, so be careful as it will have additional wear. Granted there are stories of Seikos going decades without any service, but it is something to be aware of. I would pony up the extra money and get a new SKX with a bracelet. Here is an SKX009 for $180 with bracelet.

Seiko Men's SKX009K2 vs Seiko Men SRN049

Which one should I go for? If I'm stuck with only one for a while? I know the diver watch series of SKX007/009 will be a classic but I'm stuck wanting a manly watch and an elegant watch. Seiko is pretty nice for price and my budget in general.

My general outfit is usually white wife beater (a shirt), a tapered denim jacket by brave star denim, and brown/tan chino or denim.

Thanks
