HD598 has been discontinued and replaced by this

You don't need headphones nearly that expensive to get great sound from a DAC.

Try these for $185

u/CAvalanche11 · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Am a good friend, helped him pick out about 90% of this stuff.

Headphones are Sennheiser HD 598 special edition (the amazon exclusove ones), but those are discontinued, newest version are the HD 599

Mic is Blue Snowball USB

He also uses a FiiO e10k DAC for headphones also

This question is really really subjective. Before I answer, r/headphones and r/audiophile are good sources for more in-depth stuff.

I believe that headphones have a "luxury car" market. There is a sweet spot for value, but yes, more money will get you more things and higher quality sound. Since you want it to stop outside noise, you want closed-ear headphones. You will also probably want them to support gaming surround-effect, in order to not get disoriented while playing. This already sets you at a price floor pretty high, at least for most people. I would advise you to take this purchase very seriously, and consider the longevity of the device. I personally have used my Sennheiser 598's since I bought them for $300 in 2011. These won't work for you because they are open-back. That is a long, long time for a piece of equipment. Please consider the lifespan of these things in your purchase.

Beyerdynamic DT 880 (it says semi-open, but actually more like fully open).

AKG K612 Pro: some prefer this to the K700 series, even though it is far less expensive.

Sennheiser HD 599 is within your budget at Amazon.de.

i've heard phenomenal things about the sennheiser HD599 headphones. it's up to you whether you like the aesthetics of them, though.

u/Sendhabls · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

If you can, I would recommend you go ahead and test them yourself, as everyone likes different sound signatures.

Also worth mentioning, when you get new headphones, don't judge them right away, as they don't generally bring everything to the table right away. Use them for a decent amount of time, as they may change the sound quite notably, and you might grow to like them more too.

Here are some decent options:

Sennheiser Game Zero / One (actually decent "gaming" headsest)

Sennheiser 558 (or 599, amazon currently has discount

Beyerdynamic DT770 (you should use amplifier, adds cost)

Akg K612 (again amp might be good)

Philips SHP9500

Hyper X Clouds are okay too.

Also, here is something you might want to check, long post but, as the title says, worth the read.

Hey if you are looking for good headphones I always recommend the Audio Technica ATH m50x's. They have to be the best bang for your buck when it comes to all around sound quality and comfort. I have not found anywhere where there is a sale on those though. How ever because they are such a good price already you can grab them off this link for $179

OR if those dont tickle your fancy here is two really good options from Sennheiser

I've had sennheiser now for some 6 years. Extremely light and comfortable and they won't let you down. I've got the older, discontinued version of these. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01L1IICR2/

u/Silent_Gamerz · 1 pointr/audiophile

Hi r/audiophiles!

Context/Background:

I'm an FPS gamer (and plan to start streaming) and am building a new silent gaming rig! I currently have some terrific headphones and am looking to find some minimal bass 2.0 Speakers for my sit/stand desk. Parts being considered are below. Questions at end. Thank you! Also, regarding "minimal bass", that is an absolute requirement - unless it's easily adjustable. Speakers are intended for casual gameplay/music, whereas headphones are used competitively (e.g. pinpointing reloads/footsteps)

Currently Using (don't plan to replace):

  1. Headphones: Sennheiser HD 598 and Sennheiser HD 599 (they're open-back, btw)

    Purchasing Plans:

  2. Sound Card or AMP/DAC: NONE
    1. Motherboard Built-In Sound Card: Z390 Taichi Ultimate
      1. 7.1 CH HD Audio (Realtek ALC1220 Audio Codec)
      2. Supports Purity Sound 4 & DTS Connect
  3. Speakers: Maybe Klipsch R-41PM or DIY?
  4. Microphone: Audio-Technica's 2020 USB+
  5. Microphone Boom Arm: Rode PSA1
  6. Microphone Shock Mount: Rode PSM1
  7. Microphone Pop Filter: VocalBeat WindScreen
  8. UPS/SP: Cyber Power CP1500PFCLCD (1500VA/900W, 10 outlets, AVR) - mentioned, due to interference potential
  9. Wall Acoustic Panels: DIY + Satin Fabric
  10. Window Sound Proofing: DIY Window Inserts, else possibly Acoustic Curtain (12 lbs, adhesive/velcro wall backed)

Questions: <in order of greatest importance to me, if you're time crunched>

  11. What 2.0 speakers would you recommend, given my serious bass concerns?
  12. Does any of the equipment I mention really "need" an AMP/DAC (or independent sound card) to enjoy the quality of it? Also, again, I'm personally not an audiophile, so please bear that in mind!
  13. Am I a fool to go for a windscreen instead of a traditional pop filter? I'd prefer to not have something obtrusive in my face while gaming and I do have some resonance concerns I'm still trying to resolve in-room (which leads to next two questions).
  14. Sound Proofing: I linked above the best DIY video I could find, but if anyone has a superior window insert solution, I'm DYING to find out. Or, if people think the super heavy velcro-adhesive backing curtains will suffice hold a candle to the window inserts, that would be great to know, too!
  15. Sound Deadening: I'm planning on the DIY linked above, as opposed to traditional acoustic foam cut-outs, given the reasoning explained in the video (if you didn't watch, it purports ~10x superior deadening, aids proofing further, and is far cheaper). Are there any flaws with my approach, before I go and churn out a dozen of these in a maker space? Granted, I understand one can "over-deaden" a room, if not careful.

Before I go ahead and order a $300 headphone set, this is the one you were talking about, right?

https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-599-Open-Headphone/dp/B01L1IICR2

Also, i gotta try these just to see how well they work, like, i need to know if they work as advertised. My pc has builtin bluetooth and it would be pretty great if it didnt sacrifice audio quality to go wireless. My q is this; have you ever played with this or a similar product and how did it go? https://www.amazon.com/Maceton-Wireless-Bluetooth-Sennheiser-Headphones/dp/B071DCWX6Z

If you’re looking for really great wired headphones, don’t go with gaming headphones. They are overpriced for what you get. After being unsatisfied for years, trying some of the “best” gaming headphone, I finally ditched the whole lot of them and went the audiophile route:

Sennheiser HD 599 Open Back Headphone
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L1IICR2/

and then added a microphone:

Antlion Audio ModMic 5 - Modular Attachable Boom Microphone with Noise Canceling and Omni-Directional Audio
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MCYRKY3

It has blown everything else I’ve ever tried out of the water and is still substantial cheaper than top of the line gaming headsets. I also fancied mine up with custom tubing but that’s personal preference.

u/raistlin65 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

HD599, the revision of the HD598, is an excellent choice for an all around there. That's a well-balanced sound, and it is easy to drive.

u/TheBuggaWump · 1 pointr/PS4

I splurged a little and got some Sennheiser HD 599 and they are great. They also have some less expensive versions as well.

Dipping a toe into audiophile world a little, and these ones are generally regarded as pretty good for gaming purposes.

They are Open Back, so if you have lots of background noise you want to block out they definitely won’t be for you.

u/rtkierke · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

Do you have any common sites? Because this is crazy expensive.

u/_ThtSounD · 1 pointr/battlestations

As far as headphones I bought these. I've had them for 4 years with no issues, not a big fan of the color but the sound makes up for it. The mic you have is much better than mine so you are probably all set there.

u/shanx057 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

I would split your budget to get two headphones for dedicated use.

  1. a. Gaming Headphone => Since you mainly listed FPS titles that require you to pin point footsteps and shots, I would recommend the Audio Technica ATH AD 700x (AD700x Amazon Link) for $92. These headphones are well respected and loved for FPS titles with the same requirements as yours. They don't need an amp and can be driven from your motherboard with ease.
    b. Gaming microphone => Get the ModMic 4.0 (ModMic 4.0 Amazon Link) for $50. These are great and can be driven using your motherboard. However I would suggest pairing them with something like this (USB Sound Card Amazon Link) for best results - add another $15 for this.

  2. Music and movies headphone => Get something like the HD 599 (HD 599 Amazon Link) from Sennheiser if you want good balanced sound without breaking the bank. They are easy to drive using your mobo and if you get an amp down the line they will increase the volume of these headphones. These cans are like $149 now.

So you will be spending $157 for the gaming headphone and mic and $148 for the music/movies headphone. I know this has a huge drawback of switching headphones when you want to do either, but you can also use the HD 599 for gaming as it has good imaging. The sound stage is not as wide as the AD700x but it is still good enough for positioning shots. However this will give you the (relatively) best of both worlds for your budget. :)

If you need a mic, Sennheiser Game One, otherwise this cheap HD 599.

u/RuySan · 1 pointr/portugal

I don't think that you can expect any prices on Black Friday that would make a 10-month wait worthwhile.

If you want to buy in a local store, you can always try Media Markt or Saturn or Conrad, but they don't necessarily offer the best prices, even if they claim it's a special offer.

If you know what brand and model you are looking for, you can check https://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/ProductCategory/2520.html?qd=kopfh%C3%B6rer for the best prices.

Do you want to buy over-ear headphones, wireless or cable, with or without noise-cancelling?

I personally have been using Sennheiser for many years, so if I had to spend up to 200 Euros, I would most likely buy them at amazon.de, and maybe this one https://www.amazon.de/Sennheiser-HD-599-ohrumschlie%C3%9Fender-matt-ivory-Wei%C3%9F/dp/B01L1IICR2/.

Bose Quiet Comfort of course are also very nice to have, but I haven't seen them on sale <200.

In any case, I would check them out in a store. Put some music/songs that you are very familiar with on your smartphone and plug the headphones into it. That way you can tell whether you like the way they sound as well as checking out whether the headphones feel comfortable to wear.

u/Taco_truk87 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

Thank you, I think I’m going to go with the 599, do you know if there’s a difference between this and this one?

u/captain_ender · 1 pointr/classicwow

Hey op, check out these Sennheiser HD 598s to min-max that beige glory.

I use em myself, they're great

u/Warskull · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

There are a lot of good ones with a detachable aux.

Boom pro for 3.5mm at the headphone and this similar product for 2.5mm at the headphone.

Phillips 9500s are 3.5mm

Monoprice are 3.5mm

Audio Technica ATH-50x and ATH-M40x are both 2.5mm

Sennheiser 599 is 2.5mm

u/The_Sloth_Racer · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

Get the Sennheiser HD 599 SE. They're the upgrade to the 598. They were just half off for Prime Day on Amazon, normal price is $200. Currently, the ivory color version is $142 on Amazon. Best high audio headphones you can get for $200 or less.

u/Ballcube · 1 pointr/headphones

>Interested in HD 598 but cheapest I can find is $250 - would it really be worth the extra $50?

HD 598 SR for $171.02 as of this post.

HD 599, basically an updated 598, for $186.06

Keep in mind those are both open-back, unlike the other headphones you listed. There will be no isolation and a not-insignificant amount of sound leakage if you're wearing them around other people.

If you meant the closed back HD 598 CS - that's $148.59
