This is a good budget headset.
Open back headphones generally provide better sound quality for the price. Almost all really high-end headphones (ex. Audeze LCD-X, Stax SR-009, Sennheiser HD800s) are open back, although there are exceptions (ex. Audeze LCD-XC). This is because of the audio characteristics that being open back provides.
Open back headphones have the ability to provide a larger soundstage and better instrument separation than closed back headphones. Soundstage refers to the perceived distance a sound is from the listener. A headphone with a large soundstage has the ability for sounds to feel very far away from the listener. Instrument separation is the ability to hear each different piece of a song. A headphone with good instrument separation will allow the listener to separate the background bass guitar, lead guitar, strings, vocals, etc. easily. Simple recordings make this easy to do (ex. Yosi Horikawa - Bubbles) on almost any pair of headphones. More complicated tracks (ex. Foo Fighters - Everlong) will seem like a wall of sound on headphones with poor instrument seperation, but discrete parts on good ones.
Closed back headphones tend to have more punch in the bass than open back headphones due to the seal that they provide around the ear. That being said the best bass I have personally heard from a headphone comes from an open back set, the Beyerdynamic DT1990.

Well, we are just on a thread that is into watches, not headphones. As far as audiophiles are concerned; Beats is actually on the pretty low price range too, comparatively. Sennheiser 800

I want to upgrade the receiver and buy some really good speakers, but at the moment I'm saving up money to upgrade my computer. At some point I'll likely buy a much better pair of heapdhones. I would love to get Sennheiser HD 800S, they are pretty pricey though.

Overall, pretty good. Comfortable, FAR above average fidelity for a gaming headset, mic is probably one of the best mics I've ever used that is part of a gaming headset. Again, my kids like them.
I personally don't like gaming headsets.
My personal gaming rig does not use "gaming" headsets.
I use regular low end audiophile headphones paired with a mixer + mic.
Again this is solely for gaming and not listening to music.
For music it depends what I'm listening to but I have two primary set of cans.

I've found the hd800s to be a great daily driver. The only annoyance is that the memory foam wears out by the end of the day, so I tend to rotate pairs in the late afternoon (which makes it tough to keep track which pair is for home, office, commute etc.)

Are those the $1700 HD800s hes flinging across his room?
He has a $9k PC so why would he get "decent" headphones when he can get top of the line ones like HD800S?
And as long as your headphones are good enough there will be a notable improvement with a good dedicated DAC/Amp over onboard audio no matter the impedance.
