Black Adam is one of the focused-on characters in the series 52. I can't recommend this series enough, for every character in it (but especially Black Adam). Shazam just had a single volume released here, and it's amazing and it'll leave you wanting more.

For the Flash, there's 3 big runs to consider. Mark Waid wrote one of the most well regarded runs in comics on the Flash in the 90's and I'd recommend starting there (but it's out of print so you'd need to do it digitally on comixology). Geoff Johns took over after and did another huge and acclaimed run on the character here. Both of those Flashes are the Wally West Flash. The current Flash is Barry Allen (again) and you can pick his new series up easily starting here. The new series was a lot of fun and is a good enough place to start for a comic newbie

Also, although I linked omnibuses, that was out of convenience: there's lots of other options available.

Current Shazam run is only issue 4 right now. It follows pretty much right from new 52 shazam which I believe you can get in one trade. If you feel like jumping on nows a good time.

There was a trade that collected the stories at the end of N52 Justice League floppies regarding the origin of Shazam. I enjoyed that one quite a bit!

The Shazam tradein should have all the Shazam issues.

>The one on Amazon misses out the last four issues in Justice League

I'm sorry I don't know what you mean. But as I said before, the Shazam tradein has all the essential Shazam issues.

a) no.

b) yes, and since it consists of one graphic novel and 4 issues, it's a pretty low-cost price of entry to jump on board right now. I'd highly recommend it.

Thanks for the info man, I just picked up Justice League Vol 1, can't wait to get there!

Also the word "trade" is foreign to me, I've seen it used a lot on this subreddit. What is a trade, is it just the paperback version of a comic? And if so is this what you are talking about?

Well you'll obviously have an easier time getting digital copies of them, comixology is what's mostly used (and is having a sale right now on DC Comics) but you could easily find the New 52 Shazam book by Geoff Johns on Amazon and his current run can do be mostly found in single issues in comics shops now (while supplies last) and I think volume 1 of than run should be out soon.

The older stuff like power of Shazam, etc you'll have a harder time finding physical copies of if that's the route you want and the 75 years book should be to easy to track down on Amazon or barns and Noble but again they're all readily available digitally at comixology.

They are collected separately here.

Yup and there was a 1 on New 51 Shazam as well and a lot of other books that only had one volume.

While there are plenty of great elseworld DC stories if you want to get into modern main universe DC comics you should grab #1 issue or Trade PaperBack volume of a title from either the New 52 or DC Rebirth, DC's two most recent relaunches in the most modern continuity. When it comes to DC continuity you could pretty much get a tweaked status quo with every Main Crisis Event so you're not tied down to 70+ yrs of context. The most important of these events have recently been Flashpoint and the DC Universe Rebirth #1 one shot story. Basically for DC just find something that says #1 on it regardless of continuity you could start enjoying a new series, it's actually that simple.

For good main continuity stories of popular characters for beginners I recommend:

Batman: The Court of Owls Saga

Superman Vol. 1: Son Of Superman (Rebirth)

Green Arrow Vol. 1: The Death and Life Of Oliver Queen (Rebirth)

Aquaman Vol. 1: The Trench (The New 52)

Shazam! Vol. 1 (The New 52): From the Pages of Justice League

As for Elseworld Stories:

Justice League: New Frontier (Good general grasp of the DC Universe)

EDIT: PS Some great reputable websites with affordable Trade Paperbacks (collected issues in graphic novel format) is instocktrades.com, amazon.com/comixology (for digital), and the DC Universe subscription which has a ton of older issues!

"Yes" to all questions. You meet them in the backups for n52 Justice League. I'm not sure which issues, but they would have run in the first few arcs of justice league. I doubt they've been collected anywhere, but maybe they have? They're collected here
