I own one of these. I think i picked it up on a clearance rack at Target for 7 dollars. It's ok.

Congrats on graduating. I have a collection of unusual multi tools. Most I just have as curiosities and to satisfy my inner MacGyver. I have one similar to this I got on Amazon. Keep in mind the way pliers and Phillips screwdriver are located makes them hard to use, otherwise the other tools do their job well enough. And It has a crazy vibe I like.

It is a Sheffield Hammer Tool. It feels like it is made decently. Considering the price I paid and that it is made in China I do have my doubts about it, more of a novelty knife. They also make a hatchet version. I plan on getting that too.

I have a Sheffield version (http://www.amazon.com/Sheffield-12913-Premium-Hammer-Tool/dp/B000NJUU94) and I just opened them all up and they closed right back.

It may be your tool. I would see if yours has any easy to get to take down screws and try it that way!

What is your budget? You say under $100, but what exactly does that mean - $20, $40, $80?

My fiance and I are in a similar (reversed) situation. He's a part-time intern and finishing college, and I work full time in a good job. The stuff I want, but have not purchased for myself, is definitely all out of his price range.

Hiking ideas:

  • Backpacker handbook and/or local trail guidebook
  • Super light travel games, like mini UNO
  • K9 H20 Travel Water Bottle (a water bottle with a built-in drinking cup for dogs, perfect for hikers - like $20 at PetCo)
  • $13 Hammer/Multitool, good guy gift in general
  • $8 Waterproof Match Kit
  • Tent light (around $45 at sporting good store... you can probably find a push light cheaper in a non-hiking section)
  • Wool hat/gloves/boot socks

    Kitchen stuff:

  • Cast iron skillet ($40ish) for making bomb steaks
  • Drink stones (usually plastic or metal, for cooling liquor without watering it down - $10+ at Target)
  • $50 monogrammed steak branding iron
  • Manly apron
  • French press for coffee

Welcome back! Hope the move went easy for you.

So, for starters, you'll need

  • Lysol. The reason it's so important is not only because it sanitizes, but it also smells wonderful (Pro tip: If you use Febreeze, you should stop. After continuous spraying, it damages cloth and also has a cat pee kinda odor, blech).

  • One of these bad boys. If anything goes wrong, it's sometimes hard to find the right tool for what you need done. Here is an all-in-one tool that can literally save your day.

Decided to keep it cheap, keep it clean, and keep it logical.

Hope you have a great winter in Florida!
