This is the sigma 70-300 I used on my D3100 and now my D7000. It's motorized so it'll use AF on the 3100 and I assume the 3200.

I had borrowed my brothers Sigma 70-300 without the motor (red ring near the focus band?) and remember when I was shopping for my own I wanted to make sure I got one that'd use AF on the 3100 body so I got this one (no ring).

I've gotten a lot of use out of mine (mostly macro) so to me it was worth it but I'd love to jump to something with image stabilization eventually.

if your'e able to spare some more over a d3200 with a kit lens the one mentioned above could be a good option

also, there is always ebay/craigslist
a used d3200 and an 18-105mm shouldnt run you more than $600

If you are set on this method that's all fine and dandy, but I got a macro lens for ~200 that does fine work. Made for Nikon. It's not really a single purpose lens though. It is a 70-300mm with the ability to work as a macro lense by flip of a switch on the lens. It has a motor so it autofocuses if you want it to but in macro I find it easier to just do it yourself. It's basically this but I don't know for sure that this is the exact thing. Several friends of mine use it as well. Have used it in many environments and it works really well for the price I paid.

So guys... i'm looking forward getting a new zoom lens since my Sigma 70-300 can't keep it up with my needs.

I've been shooting with this lens for two years now since I "rescued" him from my mothers hands (it was abandoned for like 3 years before I took it). It's an old Sigma 70-300 Macro which it was ok when I started using it but now i'm doing more pro stuff I need an upgrade.

I'm looking forward to the 70-200 2.8 since I shoot a lot of sports but sadly where I live (Argentina) is freaking expensive. Just to let you know, the Nikon ver II is 57k pesos (which is about 3.8k USD) so there is no way I can afford it... so ofc i'm looking for some other options and this is what I found:

  • Nikon 80-200 2.8 - 19k Pesos (1.2k USD)
  • Tamron 70-200 2.8 Macro - 18k pesos (1.15k USD)
  • Tamron 70-200 2.8 Di Vc - 30k pesos (2k USD)
  • Sigma 70-200 2.8 Ex Dg Apo - 22k pesos (1.45k USD)

Actually most of this are not available here and I'll have to travel to Chile to get them so there is also that. I'd love to travel overseas since I know i'll be able to get this lenses much more cheaper but sadly there is no way I can afford the travel right now. Amazon is not an option either since nobody ships to Argentina.

Any suggestions will be more than welcome!

Just in case: I shoot with a Nikon D610.

Hi there, quick question for you nice people!

I am looking at buying my girlfriend a new lense for christmas for her Nikon D3100, and I am kind of stuck between two different lenses in my price range.

I am looking at both the Nikon 55-20mm VR lense and the Sigma 70-30mm lense and not sure where to go from here.

The type of photography she does often is wildlife and outdoors and she really needs better zoom capability while still being able to shoot at moderate distance as well. Which of these lenses provides the best of both worlds, so to speak in terms of an aspiring photographer?

I really just want to get her something that will help her hone her skills and get better at taking photos so hopefully I can do that without spending over $200

Here's the links to the two if you're not familiar

I've been shooting lots of landscape lately and for the price, these lenses seem to be good? Are there any other lenses you guys would recommend?

Is it really necessary or would I be fine with the Tamron 18-200? The Sigma will cost me an extra $100 after conversion and import fees. Besides the extra 50mm, why is the Sigma better than the Tamron?

EDIT: Just reassessed my situation. I don't think I need something that's 18-2xx. I have a big camera bag and besides it being convenient, I can save more money by purchasing a 70-300. That way my kit lens won't be a waste and I can still use it if necessary.

I think I'll be deciding between these two.

1 and 2

I was thinking of getting that one but I think I want the 35mm instead. And I also want this Sigma 70-300mm.
