They do over standard drives that are not in the Black series (name of the drive you can find). The only caveat is any SSD will die in a year to three max, they have terrible quality and fragmentation issues. The Black series HDD, I have had them in my systems and have kept the same 3, but have replaced 10 SSDs in the past 5 years of trying them. I never vouch for SSD anymore, they're just fancy money pits imo.

Now for my personal use, when traveling (so not my home external drive), I use this:

I then of course have a usb A to USB C hub: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077P5SZV7/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That hard drive, I have driven over it with a car accidentally, dropped it in the pond outside my porch and it still is going. Tough as nails.. and on my arch linux system at home, it boots up the scenery for xplane 11 faster on usb 3 than the ssd does on sata, but that may vary per your system (if windows, don't expect anything to be fast).

Oh and since you asked, here's a quick link to one of the many varieties of the Black series drives for computers (albeit internal drive):

I recommend Silicon Power 2TB A80 model drive.

That drive has some of the highest ratings and positive reviews I've ever seen (external drive). It's really easy to disassemble (4 screws) --- and some research seems to indicate the firmware on it might be better than what is coming from the Seagates. Due to the limited manfacturing of 9.5mm 2TB drives; the Samsung M9T is one of the only available models out there --- the key is getting a high quality one. Supposedly Silicon Power "cracks the whip" demanding high quality OEM components for their external drives.

Samsung is really a pretty good brand. Even though Seagate purchased them; they stayed separate supposedly. I think it might be a "legal" type of thing that forces them to have separate Research & Development and all aspects of the company needed to remain separate; possibly a monopoly law or something like that.

If you end up going the Silicon Power A80 route to get a M9T; can you post your results?

Good luck.
