Getting the grass ready for the tincture:

***

  • Picked up a half-ounce of Blue Cheese indica yesterday afternoon
  • Ground it up finely.
  • Spread it out evenly over a glass baking pan, cover the pan with foil and put it on the middle rack of a 250f degree, pre-heated oven for 30 minutes to decarb.
  • After cooling I crushed up decarb'd grass to almost a powdery consistency.

    For the tincture:

    ***

  • I put the powdered, decarb'd Blue Cheese in a 1 quart mason jar (jars with measure lines are immensely helpful) and poured in 190 proof Everclear grain alcohol until it covered the grass in the jar by about an inch.
  • Put the lid on the jar and let soak until the next morning. While waiting shake the jar vigorously and often during the evening/night.

SAFETY TIP -- Perform the following steps only in a very well ventilated area and away from any ignition sources.

  • In the morning I put water in a medium sauce pan, took the lid off the jar put the jar in the water. Make sure the water in the pan is up to the level of the alcohol/grass mixture in the jar.
  • Turn on the electric burner (don't try this on an open flame stove top) for the pan to medium-low. Using a candy thermometer as a guide, raise/lower the temp on the burner until the alcohol/grass mixture in the jar is a steady 170f. The alcohol/grass mixture should be simmering lightly.
  • Stir the mixture frequently and reduce the volume of alcohol in the jar by about half (roughly 1 hour).

SAFETY TIP -- The hot alcohol vapor escaping the jar is invisible and extremely painful if touched. Keep face and hands away.

  • Take the jar out of the water and strain the leafy material out the alcohol mixture using a cheese cloth and discard. Return the strained alcohol to the jar.
  • Put the jar back in the bath, stirring often, and continue to reduce until you're left with about with about 65ml (roughly 4.5 tablespoons) in the jar. The overwhelming alcohol smell should be mostly gone from the mixture and it should be ever-so-slightly thickened.
  • Remove jar from the water bath and allow to cool with the lid off.

    On to the gummies:

    ***

  • (2) 3oz packages of flavored gelatin
  • (2) 0.25oz packages of unflavored gelatin
  • 2/3rds cup cold water
  • 1-2 tablespoons of tincture, depending on desired potency.
  • Mix the ingredients over medium heat with a silicon spatula in a non-stick sauce pan until it is completely liquefied (2-3 minutes).
  • Pour the mixture from the sauce pain into a glass measuring cup for easier pouring.
  • Pour the mixture into a silicon candy mold. I used this one.
  • Refrigerate for 20 minutes. Remove from molds and let set. The gummies are going to be sticky after cooling, so set them on some parchment paper and let them come to room temperature. They should be easily handled at that point.

Since it was my first time doing this I went with different levels of tincture per flavor of gummies. 1 tablespoon in the (Jolly Rancher brand) Green Apple, 1.5 tablespoons in the (Jell-O brand) Mango and 2 tablespoons in the (Jell-O brand) Cherry Lemonade.

Thank you :). I just used the molds from amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VPW0V8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This was the first time I used it and could not fill it properly. They still came out pretty good. Re: whey protein, I am not really sure of all the details. I checked the nutrition when I was buying from a bulk section and it was low carb. But you might want to look at /u/DonkeyKongSenior 's recommendation of using heavy cream powder. That might be a good alternative too.

You can just get candy molds that are rubber that won't have that problem....basically rubber, candyproof ice cube trays...
