A good friend of mine recommended Skin by Lee Varis. Mind = blown.
Typically, I use the polygonal lasso tool (you’re welcome to just use quick selection and refine the edge if you’re real picky) to outline the areas I want silky smooth. Generally, this would be the subject’s face. It’s best to create a separate layer for this selection.
I use “surface blur” on this layer. You can get as crazy with numbers as you would like, because you’re most likely going to lower the opacity so it’s less intense, but I usually stick around 15 and 15 or so.
Fool around with the opacity to find what looks most natural. Create a mask and paint over the areas you do not want smoothed (i.e. eyes, hairlines, etc.)
Some people would argue to never use blurs. Truth be told, there are so many ways to enhance a subject’s skin. You just need to find the one that works for you.
