Can personally vouch for this. Get one that you can still use even if it blows out the fuse for your cig lighter. Also, get an additional dedicated jump starter.

I feel like a roof mounted compartment would impact your gas mileage pretty badly, as well affect how you like the vehicle looking. I saw some tow hitch mounted solutions from my quick google search as well, but again, it would affect the looks.
In my previous car, I was pretty comfortable going to non run-flats, and just having a full tire plugging kit handy. This is exact one I have, and in the 5 years I had it to use it once with no issues.
It was worth the additional minor risk for going over to non run-flats.
