On top of that, I'd suggest getting a snake hook. It doesn't have to be that big, but it can help with safety in case the snake gets defensive when caught. I don't think you mentioned what part of the US you are in, and I doubt a venomous snake would eat eggs over mice or rats, but it can't hurt to be safe when doing this.

What can I say, I grew up in Lakeside and have a fondness for them. Even picked up a few rattlesnakes in my day.... carefully.

NOTE: Never attempt this... The image linked is not what it appears. I actually used a snake hook to pin down, pick up and put it into a bag; Moving it to a wildlife sanctuary in East County where it would not hurt anyone.
