I have a Snow Joe, worth every penny for clearing snow off the truck.

It kind of depends. Will you be doing a lot of things outside in the Winter? If so, then yes it's worth it to invest in a good coat and boots. Or if you're like me, I hibernate in the Winter, basic stuff from Walmart or Target will do just fine. For 'good' stuff...like the other commenter said, Sorel boots are great. Columbia and North Face jackets will keep you nice and warm. As far as little and often forgotten about things go...definitely invest in a really good pair of waterproof thick gloves. Carhartt makes some good ones and you're gonna be spending a lot of time scraping your car off and these will save your hands from frost bite. Speaking of scraping your car, if you can get an automatic starter...DO IT!! And then I hear this scraper is awesome! Go for thicker socks when the weather starts getting colder and always keep an extra pair in your car. Puddles and slush are common and you'll be so thankful that you have an extra pair in case it soaks through your shoes/boots. Last things you'll need: hat/earmuffs and a really long, think scarf to wrap your face for when the wind chill is dangerous. That's pretty much it :-)

ETA: you can get a lot of the pricier stuff at outdoor stores - Dicks, Cabellas, Joes, etc.
