Places like Anza Borrego State Park in southern California don't allow fires on the ground. One popular way to have fires out there is to recycle the tub from a washing machine as a fire pit. Commercial options include the Solo Stove Bonfire, although this is at the more luxurious end of portable fire pits. They're not mats, but I don't think you could use much less since and achieve your goal.
