Try an alarm clock that deaf people use:

I honestly have no idea on the intensity of this one or others, but they wake people up pretty well. My friend, who is deaf, has one and it would vibrate his entire bed and wake people up in the next room.

I had this problem when I worked nights and slept during the day. Very noisy apartment neighbors. I ended up getting some really good ear plugs, a large fan for some dull noise, and picked up an alarm clock for deaf people. It has a vibrator extension that goes under your pillow.

Once I started doing all that I never had an issue sleeping again. This would be easier/quicker than messing with your door.

Sonic Boom Alarm Clocks is your best option. Most deaf people (and hearing people who are heavy sleepers) use this. It basically has a vibrating disk you can put either under your pillow or mattress, and it will shake the bed when the alarm go off. Optionally, you can hook it up to a lamp which will flash a few times instead, or even pair it together.

ProTip: If they're letting 'friends' crash in your room without your consent then I'm guessing other sketch things are happening too. Lock your shit up or risk losing it.

Try the Screaming Meanie. Truck drivers use it to wake up because their sleep schedules and pretty much everything about truck driving makes it both very difficult and very important to wake up. It has the added bonus of being portable.

There's also the Sonic Boom Bedshaker Alarm Clock, which is made my a manufacturer of alarm clocks for deaf people. It wakes you up by vibrating your bed and, optionally, beeping really loudly (not as horrible as the meanie though, and more precise volume adjustments.) I have one of these and it works great!

I've also seen the SmartShaker, which is a Bedshaker that connects to your phone via Bluetooth. Personally haven't tried it and I doubt that something that runs on batteries could shake me awake, however, but it could be worth a try.

If you have trouble with going back to bed after waking up to an alarm or turning off alarms in your sleep, I recommend getting an app that requires you to take pictures or scan barcodes. If you need the phone's ringer to be louder for the alarm, try hooking it up to a speaker.

You might also consider getting an old fashioned [Analogue Alarm Clock]( Those fuckers are loud and percussive and and don't have a snooze button. There's nothing like actual metal clanging together to wake you up in the morning.

If you have some money to spend, maybe a Sunlight simulation alarm would work for you. It simulates the gradual rising of the sun, but at whatever time you need the sun to rise and without having to leave your blinds open at night, with street lights bothering you and such.

Finally, I've found that the very best way for me to wake up is for my husband (or anybody really) to bring me a cup of tea. He can get still-mostly-asleep me to sit up and take the tea, and then I have to wake most of the way up to avoid spilling hot liquid all over myself, and then I fully wake up as I drink it. Obviously, this one is dependent on living with another person and having morning schedules that work together, which may not work for you.

Anyways, as a fellow heavy sleeper, I give you all I know about not sleeping through being a functioning member of society. :)

I have this, the Sonic Alert an alarm for people who are hard of hearing that vibrates the bed, it's amazing! My boyfriend is deaf and he introduced me to them. You put the puck under your mattress or pillow. It shakes everything and unless you are on horse tranquilizers, you will wake up in the morning. I used to be the kind of person who would set several alarms all over their room, and still not wake up. My bf had the analog clock, which could not differentiate between AM & PM. I got the digital one while still in college (we lived 1.5 hours apart) and never missed a morning after that. I didn't need my mama to whoop my ass in the morning any more. ;)

Took the digital one with me when I moved out, it is still going strong 2+years later. I'm not affiliated with them, I never see this topic and am excited. I used to have a real problem. Your friend probably likes theirs a lot too!

My brother has had some success with a bed-shaking alarm clock like this one.

I also have a hard time hearing/reacting to an alarm clock in the morning. When I lived in a dorm in college, I slept in the bottom bunk. I tied a piece of string dangling down from the bed-frame above me, long enough to hang right in front of my face while I slept. I rubber-banded my phone to the string and set the volume to maximum volume & vibrate. It went off right next to my face, little painful but it worked.

Try this little fella. I had a similar problem when I was deployed back in the day. Are you getting too much or too little PT? That can mess with your sleep cycles if you vary it too much. Also, ask your squad leader or platoon sergeant if you can try the night shift, you might be able to find a shift that more naturally fits your circadian rhythm.

If it's your first deployment, especially if it's one of your first real times being away from home, you're going to hit a point where you realize that you really don't want to be there. It's ok, that's natural and it happens. The problem is when your not wanting to be there interferes with your ability to Soldier up, drive on and get your ass to work. Just focus on doing your time and taking your lumps, the deployment can't last forever, even though it's going to feel like it.

I had this problem so many times. I hated taking 8 AM classes and I had to do it several times over the years and it sucked every time. But I did learn of a few tricks that may help...

First, I'm assuming you have either an iPhone or Android phone, there are several apps that work really well for people like us. I personally have an Android phone so some of the apps I may have used, may not be available if you have an iPhone but I'll post links for both. Check out these links and try these apps. If one doesn't help, move on and try another.

Is the roommate turning off the alarms before you wake up? Or are your alarms going off and he is turning them off?

Currently I am using a sonic-boom alarm clock which also has a vibration function to wake you up (the alarm clock is designed for people who are deaf or have poor hearing) As long as you only use the vibration function, it should not bother your roommate.

I dunno if vibration would work better than sound, but there are alarms for deaf and hearing impaired people. There's this little vibrator you put under your pillow and pretty much shakes you awake. I've never used one, but I had deaf occupants living in the room under me at college, and their version of snoozing it was putting the vibrator on their night stand. That thing would raise a racket.

I use ear plugs because I sleep during the day, and I get paranoid I won't wake up. I use the alarm clock I linked as a just in case. I never have to actually let it go off any more, but it makes me feel better to know it will if I should happen to sleep through all three of my phone alarms.

I've actually got the volume on mute on the alarm clock. I just use the vibration pad.

I was constantly waking up late and was getting to the point where I was getting in trouble at work. My co-worker suggested this clock and it works GREAT. You can opt for a loud alarm with variable pitch from high to low, you set the pitch, or a giant vibrator you place under the mattress that turns your bed into a vibro-bed to wake you up, or a combination of both. Honestly I only use the vibro-bed mode now as it wakes me up reliably yet does not shock the rest of the family with the air raid siren.

Here are my tips:

  • Use to figure out when your alarms should start.

  • You said you have roommates, so try an alarm such as this one. It is capable of super loud sound which I don't use but also has a big vibrating disk you can put under your pillow or wherever is comfortable, and that shit would wake the dead, but isn't louder than a cell phone alarm

  • You said you use melatonin. Make sure your dose is right. Some pills are sold at 5 mg or even 10 mg in a single pill. You need like 1 mg maybe 2 mg. Try adding in some 5-htp as well, always helped the grogginess from melatonin for me.

  • If these things don't work, start to examine lifestyle. Caffeine, nicotine, alcohol affect sleep. Are you eating well? Are you in shape and getting exercise? Are you using your phone or computer or TV then going straight to bed or even in bed?

    Beyond those, there are sleep disorders you can get checked out.

The invisible hand of the free market has already designed and built this product. It sits on the shelf right now, waiting for you to buy it. (Amazon) and (Walmart) are two vendors among many.

I bought it and found it 100% effective. You could also read the customer reviews on websites for more user feedback. Here's an excerpt from the first review at Amazon:

Get a vibrating alarm clock. They shake the bed like an actual earthquake and don't stop until you shut them off. It's not comfy. You cannot sleep through them. There is no "jingle jangle", it's an earthquake + a screaming BUH-BUNK BUH-BUNK BUH-BUNK (if you put the sound alarm on max volume).

I'm deaf at night because I take my implants out, so I use this alarm. I think the first time we tested it out, I actually fell out of bed in surprise. I use this one but there's dozens of options out there now.

You could also get "Clocky", the alarm clock that runs and hides, so you have to get out of bed and hunt it down to shut it off.

Get him one of these options, tell him to set it one time only, and test it on a day he doesn't have work. But honestly, if he refuses and/or just goes back to setting dozens of alarms over a three-hour timespan, tell him to sleep on the couch until he's willing to work with you to find an alternative that doesn't ruin your sleep.

This here works for me. You put the bed shaker between the mattress and the box spring. If you turn the audible alarm off, it has the added advantage of not waking up your partner.
