Dude, new PS3s go for less than that. lol

Being jail-broken doesn't add value in most people's eyes; certainly not $100.

u/TheDoctorofCardiff · 3 pointsr/Games

Yeah, I'd like to see some references from Turnip_Blaster.

The only thing he's blasting is my belief from his statement.

Amazon has it for $250.

u/k3rn3 · 3 pointsr/startrek

$250 for a new 160 GB one. That's probably cheaper than some blu-ray players anyway.

u/jbigboote · 3 pointsr/PS3

right now you can get a 160GB PS3 on Amazon for $250 with a $50 credit. If you count the $50 credit as a cash equivalent, you are effectively paying $200. there are undoubtedly better deals on Black Friday (Walmart for sure), but this is available now, and does not involve fighting crowds (or paying sales tax, in most states).

u/Captain_Midnight · 2 pointsr/buildapc

This is $335 before rebates, as low as I could get it while meeting your request.

I'd also consider the fact that you can pick up a PS3 and a copy of the upcoming "Premium" release and stay within budget. And the PS3 can act as a media hub, playing Blu-rays and streaming videos.

u/NeoHumpty · 2 pointsr/truegaming

Since we are talking game systems, lets compare this to this. Or this to this. Oh. You want to discuss the cost of flash? What about just buying one of these? At least that comes out to be about $1 for every extra GB. Nintendo knows a thing or two about making cartridges, I don't see how they can justify the markup for what is basically a circuit board. I'm not hating on them, and like I said, I didn't realize that the cheaper one doesn't include NintendoLand. So, that was my fault. But the above example with the PS3 includes a game and 160GB more than the one that is only $50 less. I'm just not that impressed.

u/SG-17 · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

Every so often Sony will release a system bundle that includes a PS3 with a new game, like the upcoming ACIII bundle.

Amazon will also occasionally have sales, like right now with the systems.

IMO you should try and avoid a Super Slim model. It's still possible for you to buy a brand new Slim model PS3. The old Fat ones are just that, old, so reliability is an issue and considering that income is slower for you (assumption) I'd avoid it.

The Super Slim cannot stand on it's side, and it looks pretty awful. I do own one but because I got a deal at Gamestop for trade-ins and my old Slim model I gave to my brother when he left for Uni. The Slim has a great build quality, sleek disc loading tray and is quiet and long lasting; I've had the 320GB since release (3 years?) and it's running smoothly. However, the Super Slim model is noticeably louder.

Now, for size. 160GB models are still in stock at some retailers (Futureshop (CAN)/ Best Buy has had sales for $150), and usually they're on sale since this is an older model that they're pushing out for the new Super Slim model. If you need more hard drive space you can buy another and install it yourself (google for help regarding this matter).

As for games, FAQ has some listed but search game review websites for your preference. Anyone here will just list the typical games that everyone pushes.

Oh, and get PS+ (I'm sure a BNIB PS3 you buy will be bundled with at least 30 days).

There's a good deal going on at Amazon right now. 300 dollars with a 50 dollar amazon credit (which you can use for an extra controller)

Amazon has the base system for $249 with free shipping. I'm in a 6% sales tax state so for me, that would save $15 versus buying it locally at Wal Mart or somewhere like that.

u/el_fuego91 · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Well I got mine from a friend so I didn't pay much, but I've seen some on CL for for around 200 to 230. If you feel more comfortable with Amazon, their warehouse is selling some for $231 like-new. Most likely the box was dented, but no damage done to anything inside. I've bought a ton of stuff from Amazon Warehouse and everything was always in great condition. On the off chance it isn't, returns are easy.

Pick one and use that instead of a pc, just kidding, but seriously listen servers are awful for any kind of pvp game especially fps games, I have no problem with matchmaking on dedis like csgo, but fuck me if I have to play cod again on listen servers. (Oh and I know you said dedis+ matchmaking, but separating an already small userbase is never a good idea)

I'm curious though, why do you want matchmaking? It can't be the party system because that works on dedis as well, it can't be that it's easier because it's not, you can easily find a server with whatever gamemode you want if you don't care about the connection which you obviously don't since you want to play on listen servers. Afraid of getting kicked by admins? True, that is a problem, but that can easily get fixed by actually using the favorites feature that every good server browser have.

It's not fucking false. You're telling me that every single person in the 90s had one? That's idiotic. 200 us dollars back then is the same as 350 now. Right now, you can get the most expensive console for $250 which leaves $100 for 3 games, easy. It's not like $150 is a trivial amount of money for a kid's toy even today.

160GB family bundle

That Singstar crap will probably be useless but Ratchet & Clank is great.

u/Hear_That_TM05 · 1 pointr/CFB

It was actually slightly higher than 100, but not by much.

I bought a used version of this PS3 (the $110 dollar one that is fufilled by Amazon). It had some holiday deal thing automatically applied that took like 27 or 28 dollars off of it. Since it is fufilled by Amazon, I got free shipping with Amazon Prime.

Then, I got a used copy of NCAA 14 that was listed at 25 dollars and cheap shipping.

With taxes and whatnot it ended up being somewhere around 115 dollars.

u/camopdude · 1 pointr/gaming

160 GB PS3 slim is $250.

4GB XBOX 360 is $200.

If you have to go out and then buy a separate blu ray player, it looks like a great deal to me.

u/SolidSean · 1 pointr/PS3

That shouldn't be the case, unless they come with games/movies/move. They are all the slim model now; they won't be labeled as slim. [This] (http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-160GB-System/dp/B003VUO6H4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325096787&sr=8-1) is what you're looking for.

u/jordanlund · 1 pointr/gaming

The CPU and video card are the two most important bits and your machine fails on both counts, that's not a good sign.

The good news is I can suggest a $200-$250 upgrade that will fix that problem for you:

Wouldn't it be much more effective to spend the money on malaria nets or something instead? Let's just assume that a PlayStation 3 costs $250, a malaria net costs $5, and 1 in every 400 malaria nets saves a life. Then with a $2,000 donation, you could either buy eight PS3s, or save one life.

Is the choice obvious?

My current HTPC is my old desktop, but lets pretend its not.

My last HTPC was a Compaq CQ2024 I bought in an online auction for $150
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03091641

It uses a peak of 65 watts, and thats including running the 2 harddrives that I doubt you are including in your wattage, since you would need to use an external harddrive with an additional wall wart to power it.

But just for shits and grins, lets calculate the cost of using my current HTPC. It has a 350 watt power supply. So I'm using 350 watts if I max it out.

350 watts is 8.4 kilowatts a day. Price per a kilowatt in my area is 12 cents. So it costs me roughly a $1 a day to run if I'm tweaking the tits off this thing. Which I'm not. But I digress.

Some quick googling tells me the raspberry pi uses .2 amps at 12.5 volts
http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=80794

This works out to 2.5 watts, 60 watts a day, or roughly 2 kilowatts a month.

I would take about 35 days and a few hours to pay for a raspberryPi, at my electric usage.

But wait, you said gaming PC didn't you? Thats RIGHT! I can game with this thing, and you can't with a raspberryPi.

PC games are on par with PS3 games, right? Most titles are transferred over nowadays.

How much wattage do one of those use?
http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html#PS3_Model_Differences

Looks like some use as much as 380 (MORE than my HTPC), and the lowest (the super slim) uses 180 watts max.

350 (my PC) - 180 (super slim PS3) = +170 delta in wattage.

Looks like a new one is going for $275
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Playstation-3-Slim-160GB/dp/B003VUO6H4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1370289930&sr=8-3&keywords=PS3+Super+Slim

At 170 watt/hour difference in usage (at a cost of $00.0204 per hour), I would have to game for 561 days to make up the difference in cost between my free PC that was destined for the parts bin and a PS3 Super Slim.

And thats just using nice big round numbers. Its not using a full 350 watts. Its a 65 watt CPU + another 100ish for the 2 harddrives and the video card. It might ramp to a full 200-250 if I'm actually playing a game.
