I prefer the smaller form factor Sony PRS-350SC, but certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at the 650.

Yes, I bought an ereader a few years ago and a Nexus 7 last year. The ereader lacks wifi, doesn't allow you to search files and has a terrible time reformatting pdfs. However, the battery life is measured in weeks and not hours and as long as there are still words and books it won't be obsolete; it replaces a few duffel bags worth of books at a time. It's a little bit of a pain to find DRM free files, but workable. It's honestly more useful than the day I bought it, and I expect that trend to continue.

Nexus 7 is for the large PDF files with graphics or that I need to search rather than read straight through.

The tablet can do everything quite well, but the reader can do pure text better, with battery life good enough to not care about battery life, and for dirt cheap.
