I suppose the question is how well can a mob really deal with something small. The NSA and FBI had already flagged the Boston Bomber as a suspicious character, but the problem is there are 750,000 people on the watchlist. It's too much data. Right now we know the Chinese allow the population to criticize the government and elite institutions so that they can be aware these criticisms exist. So it is crap for what you're talking about: individual discoveries, entrepreneurs, and other tenants of industrial capitalism.

What it's handy for is running social programs, be it welfare, hospitals, social services, etc. It's already being used to remove inefficiencies and redundancies in cities and governments willing to look at data and cut programs that are wasting money. Hospitals now tag problem emergency room patients and assign social workers. Police now heat map problem areas and assign extra patrols. Although this leads to all sorts of other dystopian crap, where you are really starting to see the principle of Hivemind as Government is in community development.

I'll go ahead and just plug my book here so we can get it out of the way. Yes, it's called Space Lawyer.
