Would you consider a Tupperdor?

Sistema 1870: $20

  • Check locally, Target or Home Goods might have this for less.
  • Any of the Sistema containers are good options. They have clamps and a gasket in the lid to make sure the container stays airtight. Choose the one that fits your needs or a similar product. The 1870 will hold around 80 cigars.

    Boveda Packs: $17

  • Choose the pack that is right for you. Personally I like 65%.
  • If you go with a different size container, you might need to adjust how many packs you get. Remember to get the number of packs per the capacity of the container, not how many cigars are currently in the container. This page will help you determine how many packs you will need.

Digital Hygrometer: HygroSet II - $14 or Caliber IV - $24

  • Any correctly callibrated digital hygrometer will work.
  • I have both of the above and they are good options

    Spanish Cedar Trays: $13

  • These are not needed, however work well for organization
  • Plastic trays will also work.
  • If you choose a different container, make sure the trays fit.

You should think about upgrading to cedar trays or even unused cigar boxes from your local Cigar shop.

Tupperware and trays, you can also get bovedas from Amazon or most places that sell cigars.

The pupperdor is a gofund business with the following timeline "As we start to approach our fixed goal - production will begin!" They are currently at 3.6% so would be faster to buy your own parts.

u/krdshrk · 6 pointsr/cigars

Go for a Tupperdor instead of the Humidor - a lot easier to maintain.

Sistema Klip It tupperware container from Amazon is a perfect size.. If you want better organization, you can pair it with a Spanish Cedar Tray - it fits right inside. Get some Boveda Packs (65% or 69%) and a good hygrometer (I recommend a digital one) and you're all set.

I got you.

Container like this but this same one can be found cheaper at Target. You may need to use a free ship to store pick up option.

At least one of these, but two can stack in the above container.

A digital hygrometer. I use this guy.. Feel free to shop around obviously. Avoid analog hygrometers and make sure to calibrate it before trusting it. Techinally you could get by without one, but it's nice having the confirmation.

Two of these (65% for tubberware, imo). The four pack is $6 more if you want extra, buy two tupperwares or whatever.

u/Unique_NY · 5 pointsr/cigars

This is the setup that I have. It uses these cedar trays from Amazon and this 80-qt airtight container from Target. They also sell 54-qt that I used with the same trays before I ran out of room. That one holds my boxes now.

I'm working on a project to install a fan inside for circulation.

Search "Tupperdor" on Amazon. Should get a few hits.

The 7 Liter (236oz) (7.4qt) (42 cup) Sistema almost perfectly fits the 2 cedar trays that I got from Amazon. I was very pleased with it. The container goes by many names - I've literally seen it go by each of those unit of measures. Amazon has it for like $36 which is crazy. I had Walmart ship me one but they sent a 5 liter by accident and think the item listing is incorrect about the sizing. Sistemas have a rubber gasket on the lid and 4 flip lock things to keep the lid secure.

I ended up going with the Container Store. They are not in my area so I had to buy online and pay for the shipping. They go for $12.99

I've gotten two different cedar trays from Amazon and this is the one that is a great fit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B9234HE

I've also bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0733TYGWX/ but the fit wasn't as good (it is a little smaller).

The one with the good fit has 2x5 of those holes in the bottom while the one that was a little smaller has 2x3 holes.

Most will recommend the Sistema 1870.

You can optionally get a Spanish Cedar Drawer for organization.

You will need a hygrometer.

And finally Boveda. Most people will recommend 62% or 65% for a tupperdor setup.

u/Bentwookiee838 · 3 pointsr/cigars

You do not want to use regular cedar. Reason spanish cedar is used on cigars is because it is mold resistant and second aroma. That being said you could get away with an old cigar box or pieces of one but it's not really necessary in a tupperdore. A lot of people including myself are using the below container with the below trays. I will caution you it is hit or miss with the trays. Half will arrive either broken or covered with a dust that looks like mold. I usually order twice what I meet and return the defective ones. As far as hygrometers I suggest not going cheap although with tupperdores it's not even really necessary as long as your container is tight and boveda not expired. I just like being able to look in and see because of my ocd.

Here's what I use. Saw some recommendations here, and skimmed the Amazon reviews to see lots of people using this setup too.

And two 65% Bovedas
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FWPQ8WC/ref=twister_B00P2HIJ2C?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

This setup will easily hold 50+ cigars. You can fit two of the trays, and the Bovedas fit on each end. I haven't had more than 27 cigars at a time in it yet, but they all fit in the top tray along with my hydrometer with some room for a few more. Right now, the bottom tray has air packets to help regulate humidity by reducing empty space.

When starting out always go for the tupperdor route. It doesnt matter what the environment is the cigars remain the same rh.

The default setup for a new cigar smoker is this: Systema container | cedar tray | Boveda 65 | Hygrometer. You could get away with not buying the hygrometer as long as you use the Boveda's but It's always good to know the rh. Other recommendations: The Cuban Crafters Perfect Cutter and another great tool to have is the PerfecDraw, not cheap but worth every penny.

Tupperware

Obviously the capacity is dependent on the size of the 'gars, but I'll probably keep it to 25 max as that's the recommended limit for one large boveda pack.

I've got questions!
What Spanish cedar tray is that?
What's the model/make on the Tupperware? How many sticks do you estimate your setup will hold?

u/johndalton44 · 2 pointsr/cigars

I use these and like them a lot.. The bottom slats are only covered in Spanish cedar, but the sides are pure Spanish cedar all the way thru. They smell great and I can fit 5 trays plus boxes in my 48qt cooler

u/heykidzimacomputer · 2 pointsr/cigars

I put one of these F.e.s.s. trays on the bottom: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0733TYGWX/

And then put this one on top of it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B9234HE/

They fit perfectly in the Sistema container together. The larger one is too large to fit two, but the F.e.s.s. one is small enough to fit with it. Two Fess will work too, but the other one gives a little bit more space for larger cigars.

u/matatasmatatas · 2 pointsr/cigars

Yup! It's what I use for my cigar boxes and for aging. I love selecting a cigar from a nice wooden humidor, so my active rotation is in one that's been doing ok so far, but you can't beat a tupperdor for precision.

Any large plastic container with a hermetic seal works; for loose cigars, people love the sistema klip it with cedar trays, they apparently fit together well.

I found an Insignia 8 bottle at Best Buy for $49 in store, it shows $79 on the site. I measured it out and these will fit perfectly in there sideways. I'm using kitty litter as the humidification per a few sites I read about building one.

u/Data4n6 · 2 pointsr/cigars

Hey guys, I am relatively new to the cigar hobby and have enjoyed reading this sub. I have a question that I hope someone could help me out with.

I started a tupperdor to hold my growing collection about a month ago. I bought this tray for it (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B9234HE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_SsyzzbG426J79) as it got good reviews.

I am starting to suspect this is more of an aromatic cedar rather than real Spanish cedar as the smell is potent. I don't know if it's in my head but it seems to have transfered into my cigars (all in cellophane) as they all have seemed to have the same smell across different kinds of cigars which seems odd to me (could be because I haven't been in the hobby enough to be able to pick out distinct smells yet).

I am wondering if any one has this tray and can let me know if it is something that if good to keep in my tupperdor or something I should remove immediately. Don't want any of my cigars ruined!

Thanks in advance.

u/BuckinFuffalo · 2 pointsr/cigars

I have this exact setup.

I actually ended up using both sides. Took the other side over and bought the wife a new winecooler.

The cedar trays on Amazon fit, but are almost too large. I ended up putting a cigar oasis on the glass of the door so the fan can help circulate air up. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B9234HE/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_DAtCzbM4A18QQ

I originally struggled with humidity staying constant. I now run a big bowl of kitty litter VERY wet and I'm getting a fairly constant 66/66.

It's expensive, but looks great and functions well.

u/---YNWA--- · 2 pointsr/cigars

I have just recently traveled this road myself and learned the best option for noobs like us. These links will get you set up perfectly, my friend. This will allow you to grow a bit as well since you can stack 2 of these trays inside the tupperdore, and each tray will hold about 40 cigars I think. Many will tell you this is actually a better option than most cheaper humidors. So you save money and get better performance, it's a win-win!

u/Farmerjoe1 · 2 pointsr/cigars

I but these Spanish ceder trays and the work just fine. Note there are different sizes. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B9234HE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_64u6xbQZCZHRD

You could maybe do some boxes for more regular sizes then cedar drawers , like the ones people use for wineadors for the oddballs? I think Amazon has em for $20ish

Ordered my standard Tupperdor set-up last week off of Amazon; Sistema 236 oz Klipit and two Spanish cedar trays. I have four identical set-ups already. It shows up, and the trays don’t fit. I chalk it up to manufacturing tolerances and order another set-up, but from different vendors. Same thing! I know lots of other people have used this, so I want to give everyone a heads up and see what other Tupperdor containers y’all are using. These are NOT the FESS trays, but again, ones I've used successfully for four other set-ups.

Shit, those would work out perfectly. I was gonna stop by my shop on my way home, so I'll see if they have any large boxes I can get.

Yeah, I was looking at cedar trays or even some larger tupperware that would fit in my 11.5"x11.5" wineador. I could take apart some of my boxes and lay planks of cedar across the tops so I wouldn't have to humidify each individual sealed tupperware.

u/redditiem2 · 1 pointr/cigars

I think a good tuppador setup is a Sterilite 20 Qt Air Tight Storage Tote with some large 65% Bovedas and some cedar cigar trays, along with a digital hygro. The cedar trays are completely unnecessary but just nice to have for organization and easy access.

Or check out cheap humidors if you want a wooden one. I think they have a discount code floating around here somewhere.
