I love this idea!!! I don't know if I have anything mind-blowing to offer but here are a few wonderful items I've come across:
Storing ink cheaply- use a spice rack:

Cleaning pens/soaking them? I use an old Copa Di Vino glass. It's plastic with a lid and about the perfect size for pens. I use it for my Ahab and Safari pens among others. If you hate wine you can always pour it out. The container with the wine is just a few bucks and worth it:

Also my favorite tutorial on repairing Esterbrook fountain pens. I love Esterbrooks because they are simple to repair and inexpensive. It's a great buy for anyone dipping their toe into older fountain pens and restoration:

If I can think of any more I'll be happy to share.

There is this spice rack that a lot of people on this sub have and use for nail polish storage! It's pretty and cheap!

You say get things are in disarray, if she needs a place to store polish bottles http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001E8TLKC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1410819408&sr=1-3

Otherwise, something to store tools, glue, press on nails, look into Caboodle, I love mine, got it at Ulta for about 25 bucks with a coupon, I wouldn't pay more than 30 and I bet they arw on Amazon too. Ulta website has free shipping over 50 and free returns to store.

I got them on amazon They're actually spice racks.. but it does well as a nail polish rack too. hehe

A bit of forewarning: you won't be able to see the colors in the back. If you stagger them, OPI/china glaze polishes will fit 16 per row. Julep fits in rows of 3 without staggering. You can fit a bunch of Julep, but you won't be able to see the two rows in the back.

I'm still pretty okay with this as I've sorted them by brand and remember what colors I have of each so I can quickly find what I'm looking for :)

I use spice racks I don't need to see the colors because I have Swatch sticks organized by row of where they are on the racks and you can fit two rows of pretty much every normal .5 oz polish bottle on each shelf. these are the ones I use: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001E8TLKC/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I love the dark iron look and the fact that I can mount them on the wall right by my nail table and light so it's all right there and easy to access. It also helps that they are inexpensive so I can purchase them easily and spend more on polish :D

OK - I had another idea. What about a bed-wetting accident?

As for my <$20 item, how about either this hanging jewelry organizer or this hanging spice rack organizer?

For my <$5 item, I have some single MP3s on my Music WL that would be awesome!

I don't know that I'll be much help, since I'm not familiar with UK vendors, but a couple of general questions:

  • About how many polishes does she have? This will drive how big of a box/rack/set of drawers she needs.
  • Do you live near an Ikea? If so, and if she has a ton of polish, these drawers are incredibly popular for people with large collections. They can hold approx. 500 bottles of polish!
  • Is she able to wall-mount anything where she lives? For example, spice racks like these are fairly popular for polishes, but (obviously) she needs to be able to wall mount it.
  • Are there any particular brands that you know of that she likes? Does she wear a lot of bright, glittery polishes, or does she tend to be fairly conservative with her nails?

If she likes doing nail art, you may want to check out MoYou London. They have stamping plates and other nail art supplies. Nail stamping is the process of applying polish to an engraved metal plate, scraping excess polish off of the design, and then picking up the polish left in the design and transferring it to the nail.

If you think stamping is something she'd be interested in, you could pick up a few of the image plates from MoYou (they have a TON of different designs, and are good quality), as well as a stamper like this one or this one. Those same stampers can be found cheaper on Amazon or Ebay (direct from Hong Kong or China), but they'll probably take longer than 2 weeks to get to you. MoYou took less than 2 weeks to get from the UK to the US when I ordered, so it should be pretty quick for you.

I'm sure she'll love whatever you pick up; all of us love having S/Os that support or enable our nail habits :)

You can get lots of cute ideas from The Container Store, if you're also in the need for storage on top of the vanity.

One of my favorite options is a magnetic board also. You can either get them like this off Etsy, or you can buy a magnetic board at Michaels/Home Depot with some small magnets and DIY. I'm fond of just a plain magnetic board with no covering, too. Looks kind of ... I don't know, rustic? Is that the word? It's really easy to do and ends up saving you counter space.

There's also Fold-out type desks that will save you space. I know you said you now have the room for a full vanity, but space savers give your floor space a clean, modern feel that I personally like. You could even stick a cute lounge chair under it to be used as your makeup chair and reading chair depending on the time of day. :)

If you won't find yourself refinishing an older product, my only concerns would be squeaky drawers (I get goosebumps just thinking about that noise, ew, ew, ew) and paint flaking off if it's previously been painted. Neither of those might bother you. If you can find something kickass at a garage sale or antique shop, that's awesome.

Edit: Don't forget about cake stands for perfumes or other jarred liquids as well. This one is a little gaudy, but you get the idea.

Spice racks for nail polish storage.

Test tube racks for brush storage.

Did I go way off topic? You asked about vanities, and I went mostly with accesorries. Oop.

Ah okay, this might work for you then! I really like it, I actually got another one for my kitchen to hold spices.

I use 2 of these spice racks. I hated the cheap plastic one because they looked trashy IMO. These match my room decor perfectly!!

The Naked 2 palette is hiding in the back on the bottom shelf if that gives you any reference! It's this spice rack if you want to look at the dimensions.

I have 2 of these - they're great for kitchen storage, and they're gorgeous! :)

What a kind offer!
There are two things off my wishlist that aren't necessities that I would really like.

THIS SPICE RACK that is the right size to hold my daily medications in an easy place for me, but out of reach for little hands.

or

THIS BOOK about helping your child with sensory issues get organized. I have been wanting to read it for a while and the library can't get it.

THIS is the wishlist link with those things on there. It has a few little things that I have stuck on there over time, just ignore the rest.

Thank you so much and Happy Thanksgiving!
