Fountain pen ink is runnier than calligraphy ink. India ink is good for beginners - you really don't need anything fancy. You can try Speedball India Ink. This one from Winsor and Newton is fine too and a bit cheaper.

You can also check JetPens for more options - their prices seem to be cheaper than Amazon.

  1. I use [Sakura Microns] (https://www.amazon.in/Unknown-Sakura-Pigma-Micron-Pens/dp/B00M4BU0OO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521133165&sr=8-1&keywords=sakura+micron) and a [Speedball nib holder] (https://www.amazon.in/Speedball-6-Nib-Calligraphy-Lettering-Set/dp/B000BYQLT4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521133197&sr=8-1&keywords=speedball+nibs) (with [D. 2. It's 2018, I don't think anything is original. It's just the circumstances and one's ability that together remain unique for every individual.

  3. Value the work you do, get better at it, showcase it.

  4. I'm not too fond of it and that's only because I'm not comfortable working like that. Same reason I don't use a lot of colours in my work, I'm not comfortable. Just stick to whatever you are comfortable/happy with and let it flow. Trust me, what comes out will be something you could call your own.

Surely!
An oblique nib holder, coupled with a flexible nib, with an ink to dip in (india ink is thick and good for dip pens, though any ink could work if cared for).

It is difficult to get used to, but very fun to try.

http://www.amazon.com/Speedball-Calligraphy-Flexible-107-Pen/dp/B009L9T7IM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1377656372&sr=8-6&keywords=speedball+nib

http://www.amazon.com/Speedball-2-Ounce-India-Super-Black/dp/B0007ZJ8TM

Then try something along these lines for paper...

http://www.allunderone.org/calligraphy2/calligraphy.php

Print that only HP 32lb laser paper...

http://www.amazon.com/HP-11310-0-Premium-Choice-Laserjet/dp/B000099O2W

And you are looking at a grand total of ~$25.00.

Granted this is a calligraphy nib holder and its VERY different than a fountain pen, and requires that you practice a LOT.

A good video on YT of this technique: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Pz04cuzVCo

GOOD LUCK!

Who the fuck would buy that ink? If you get indie ink like this then it would only be $242.56 (roughly because I converted from CDN to USD).

Edit: and this isn't even the best deal. It's just what I found first.

This is a good set from Speedball on Amazon. The B5 is pretty thick and commonly used amongst traditional flash painters. Sailor Jerry used a Speedball B5 nib. I prefer the smaller tips, but they require some practice to get clean lines.

This is the ink I use with it. Super black and waterproof so your watercolor won’t smear it. Dip straight in the bottle.

The key with getting consistent lines with nibs is keeping your pen in hand at a steady 45 degree angle, and moving your arm, not so much wrist and keeping consistent pressure. There’s instructions that come with the pen set. They’re short, but useful. Read it. And of course, practice a bunch and you’ll get it.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I would recommend not getting a fountain pen, because it would be expensive to get one with the flexible nib necessary to have variable-breadth strokes like in the OP.

Just get a starter set of nibs and a nib holder like this Speedball set for $10, find a tutorial for pointed-pen scripts like Engrosser's or any of the scripts mentioned in this video.

Oh, you'll also need some ink. India ink or walnut ink both work fine.

Okay, I've found some "India Ink" that can be used on wood, however I'm not sure it would be safe to smoke from (if the wood even gets that hot), can someone else research that - I'm also tired and stoned. [5}

Is this good?

Sweet, that was my next question. What brand do you suggest.

I have 2 night stands, how much ink do you think it will need?

This. Just getting new supplies is often just as motivating as a tablet I think. A nice new pad of paper, a few nice new pens, maybe even a brush or g-pen and ink if you're feeling adventurous (definitely exciting, but possibly messy).

The Copic marker pad is some nice paper. Paper's a lot about personal preference though, whatever you get go to your local art store the next time and have her help choose one with you https://www.amazon.com/Copic-Markers-Alcohol-Marker-Sheets/dp/B000Q7G7S6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481785351&sr=8-1&keywords=copic+marker+sketch+book

For a brush, I'd recommend one of these for sure: https://www.amazon.com/Winsor-Newton-Kolinsky-Sable-Watercolor/dp/B000YQG9ZK

For ink, this one is great but messy container: https://www.amazon.com/Speedball-2-Ounce-India-Super-Black/dp/B0007ZJ8TM/ref=pd_sim_201_5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=DQKJEH36V4PAJVXBXQAC

A G-nib: https://www.amazon.com/Zebra-Comic-Model-Chrome-PG-6B-C-K/dp/B006CQW428/ref=pd_sim_201_5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MKPZYS4GTKG4MPMV5BKF
plus nib holder: https://www.amazon.com/Tachikawa-Comic-Holder-Model-T-40/dp/B000UF2774/ref=pd_sim_229_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=JQ1R1E1GERQQ20KEYEVF is more traditional japanese style than a brush but I personally don't like it as much

And a few Copic markers would also be awesome, they're expensive but refillable and the best on the market IMO. A Skin tone set: https://www.amazon.com/Copic-Markers-6-Piece-Sketch-Tones/dp/B004XR92EG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481785568&sr=8-2&keywords=copic+markers

Plus maybe a floral set: https://www.amazon.com/Copic-Marker-Sketch-Floral-Favorites/dp/B005NB4IZ4/ref=pd_sim_201_5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=JG9YQ4AVBM15NPXW4XRW would provide a very good base as far as markers go

If you want to try out the G-pen and Maru pen I suggest the Deleter starter manga kit. It has the Saji, Maru and G-pen nibs with a pen holder. It's the best bang for your buck, also try to look into other places to buy it because I believe they ship it from Japan so it takes a while to get. Unless you don't mind waiting like me, it took a month for me to get it. You do need to buy ink separately. You could try India ink, I use it when I'm inking with my G-pen. As for Micron pens you can get this bundle. In the end I suggest that you do your own research and read the reviews so you can decide for yourself. This is what I use so this is the only stuff I can recommend. Good luck

Hey there! I'm pretty new at this too! I've been lurking the internet trying to find stuff too haha. If you're gonna start a new art go all in! (with a budget). I bought this recently and it all cost less that 20 dollars (14 to be exact).

Speedball--This has a bit of everything, flat and thin so you can see what you want to learn first (8): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QWUHF4/ref=s9_simh_gw_p236_d0_i3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1AQ41ZS5PGTBX4KYXY07&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846

and paper, I have this decently thick paged journal book. I've seen people use regular printer paper (not recommended) but not forbidden.

If you want my opinion, I say GO FOR IT :D it will only set you back 14 dollars or so. Just a tiny bit more than what you spend on dinner with friends.
