I ended up getting one of these which has been fine.

Here is the one that I have. However, I bought it from bed bath and beyond with the standard 20% off coupon.

Oh no! You could get glass spice jars then transfer everything and label them. That way you both get your preferred spices and everything is uniform. Might be a bit expensive up front but it would be a one time purchase at least. I have considered doing this but buying my spices from a shop for a better quality product and less waste from the packaging. Everything that’s a weird size get chucked in the center basket.

I have two shelves in one of my cabinets dedicated to spices. On the bottom level, I made it very tall and installed one of these. Short bottles on top, full size on the middle and bottom tiers. In the center, I theoretically keep all of my larger form containers, baking soda, paprika, Old Bay, baking powder, as well as my garlic, though this has turned into a full on mess of whatever random spices I have. Like a gas, my spice collection has grown to consume all available space.

Above this space is a very narrow shelf I keep bags of stuff in. Nutmeg, whole spices, whole dried peppers, etc. Above that, among bags of weird flour and shredded coconut, is a big ass bag of tellicherry pepper.

And in the bottom shelf of the cabinet next door is where I keep all the very large form spices. Garlic powder, cayenne, big thing of jerk spice, big ol bottle of vanilla, and so on. This also contains my extracts, and some of my specialized baking ingredients.

For me, being "organized" isn't so much keeping everything neat and tidy, but knowing where stuff is. No, my container of bay leaves isn't readily visible and proudly displayed alphabetically next to my dried basil. It's somewhere in front of the spicy shelf, among the random BBQ rubs and seasoning mixes and garam masalas that I've acquired. All I have to do is rummage for a moment, and there it is. My spices are spread out over three cabinets on a handful of different shelves, but it never takes me more than 30 seconds to find something.
