I think that the event is awesome. It has a fairly interesting story and a lot of the Spider-Men featured are awesome and are all unique. They are all really memorable.

If you want to start reading it, then I suggest you start with The Parker Luck trade as it gives you some background on what has happened with Parker recently which will help you understand Spiderverse easier. Then you should get this Spiderverse trade (or find a cheaper one). Alternatively, you can get this. It does not come with any of the Spiderverse tie-ins although they aren't really needed to understand the whole story.

You can also get Edge of the Spiderverse which contains backstories of some of the characters featured in the event.

This has pretty much everything Spider-Verse related in it. It's the core series (which is contained in Amazing Spider-Man) and like a billion tie-ins. It's pretty expensive, but it's a LOT of content (you're getting like 26 issues in there). Also, don't click on the "paperback" link there because that's a completely different thing (it's a five issue tie-in to Secret Wars and has pretty much nothing to do with the original Spider-Verse except for the characters.

If you don't want to spend quite that much, the core series is contained in here and here.

There's also Edge of Spider-Verse, which is just a little miniseries on how some of the different Spider-Men get involved in Spider-Verse. Each issue is completely self contained and they're pretty fun (#5 is one of my favorite parts of the whole event). By the way, this isn't included in the giant hardcover.

Amazon.com has the hardcover compilation of the event for $50 right now: Amazon US

Amazon.co.uk has it for £17 (which for here is nuts): Amazon UK

Worth preordering it, as that price is going up on release!

Batman by Snyder & Capullo is generally the most acclaimed Bat-book at the moment.

It is confusing to keep track of it all. As for how this whole thing started, well...

There's a new Spider-Woman, Silk, and she just got out of a bunker Ezekiel built to keep her shielded from Morlun. Spider-Man came across said bunker and freed her. She's somehow important to the Inheritors (which is the group Morlun belongs to) and it stirs things up.

Meanwhile, Superior Spider-Man from the middle of his run is in the future and has seen the various Spider-Men from alternate universes dead and has realized what's going on and has built an army of Spider-Men.

Spider-Man 2099 also got the news from an alternate Spider-Man 2099 who had noticed the Inheritors' strikes.

Spider-UK (Spider-Man + Captain Britain) has also felt the threat and was essentially told to go take care of it himself. He too was assembling Spider-Men to help him out. I think it's his group that encounters our current 616 Spider-Man.

So, that's the gist of it as far as the actual Spider-Verse goes. For more detail, you can look up Edge of Spider-Verse 1-5 and each current Spider comic has a checklist to help you with Spider-Verse. Alternatively, there's the complete book coming out when the event is over. I have it preordered myself.

Hopefully that got you a bit up to speed.

I haven't read them all but, Spider-Verse is where all the world bouncing takes place.

Edge of Spider Verse is also where Spider Gwen was first introduced. They're also still playing with the multiple universes in Web Warriors

Thank you for the reply. So basically this hardcover?

u/DementiaPrime · 2 pointsr/comicbooks

The wiki page might clear some of it up since it lists all the books included(the FCBD issue really isn't needed, but is free digitally so can always go and read it just because free) and spider-verse starts with Amazing Spider-Man 9 and with stories like this; they will do a recap of essential stuff and as you can see from the wiki page; if looking for Gwen stuff then you would most likely want to pick up edge of spider-verse as well. If you can wait then there is also going to be a oversized spider-verse trade at a decent price for the number of issues included and that way if you want to go back further(dying wish and the superior spider-man was really good even if not essential to spider-verse) then you can catch up on some of those older stories while you wait for the giant spider-verse trade to be released.

They have a collected edition just like Superior Spiderman. You can use this or look for the single issues or trades. The collected edition will be the easiest and probably cheapest. You can also look for it at your local library. The collected edition doesn't have every tie-in but it has all the important ones and the main event.

Thanks for the great info. Should I get AS-M Vol. 1: The Parker Luck and Edge of the Spider-Verse along with the Spider-Verse book (http://www.amazon.ca/Spider-Verse-Amazing-Spider-Man-Dan-Slott/dp/078519035X). Would this be a good way of getting the full story?
First I would read AS-M Vol. 1, then follow the order given on How to Love Comics for the Edge of the Spider-Verse and for the Spider-Verse book that I linked. What do you think about this?

Yep the whole event is already solicited. If you are looking for just that one issue, it will probably go to second printing, and will also be in the Edge of Spider-Verse TPB. Cheers!

There you go.

Next time, don't try be "smart" and assumptive if it reveals actual ignorance on your part while you're trying to impress an air of authority. It's very annoying and rude. Thank you, fuck you, bye.
