Add-on insurance is usually a scam because the companies behind it are fly-by-night. Today, they are Square Trade. Tomorrow, they will be someone else when their existing obligations become too much to handle. It's easy to offer cheap insurance when you have so many ways of weaseling out of it. Look at negative Amazon reviews of them:

Geek Squad is at least has an actual in-store presence, although who knows how long that will stick around.

Asus repair is a joke, it's true. Among people who have done it, you get stuck in this loop of either getting refurbished units or hastily repaired ones. Asus tries to run out the clock on the warranty.

I've never had to deal with Samsung, however, I've never had their products break on me either. I don't assume it's much better than Asus if something does break though.

But it sort of depends on what you think a fair lifespan is. If your concern is getting a lemon that conks out in the first couple months, then your best protection is to buy from a retailer with a liberal return policy like Amazon, Costco or Target.
