That being said, you can do better with quality replacement blades if you look at other companies like Hock.
My first plane was just like yours (#5c Type 11). You'll enjoy it. I truly think it is the best choice for first plane.
If you're not gonna buy another plane for a while, consider getting a second blade, even a cheap one. Keep your best blade flat for smoothing and shooting and put a camber on your cheap blade for thicknessing. Two or three planes are better, but this worked for me as a stopgap.

I'm going to be contrarian. I think if you already bought the plane, and the only issue was the iron chipping, go ahead and get a new iron. You can buy Stanley replacement irons on amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-12-313-Bench-Plane-Replacement/dp/B00002X1ZE. You can compare measurements, I bet it will work. You don't have to worry about the lateral adjustment because that's on the chip breaker. So as long as the width is right, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
I've ordered this replacement blade, and it seems to work great for me. Definitely no chipping. It seems to retain its edge well, but I don't have much to compare it against.
Measure the blade’s width. It’s probably 2”. A less expensive alternative to Hock (which are excellent) are the cheaper Stanley blades:
