There 100% are converters for HDMI to displayport, I've used them in building out 6-way monitor rigs for traders in the past

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-Adapter/dp/B0144NS4Z6?th=1

The problem is people don't read and see the $19.99 ones that are DP->HDMI and not the other way around.

So the real answer is read and understand what you are getting.

*EDIT -- To make this simple if you just see it as a cable it will not work HDMI->DP is an active adapter because of a timing circuit.

u/mokkat · 3 pointsr/Monitors

If you want 144hz 1440p and G-Sync for your gaming you must run a displayport cable directly from the graphics card.

If you absolutely must use the PG278Q for the Mac as well, you need an active adapter, something like this: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-Adapter/dp/B0144NS4Z6. Now, if this one can do 4k 30hz I assume it can also do 1440p 60hz, but there's no guarantee (1440p not listed as a compatible resolution on Startech spec site). This is also assuming the Mac has a HDMI output capable of 1440p. If the splitter is truly passthrough you could run the adapter from it instead of from the Mac.

The signal has to be processed and converted because displayport does not natively support HDMI input. This means output refresh rate and resolution may or may not meet your expectations. In the reviews for this device on amazon are brutal, and I am guessing this product does not work as well as people would expect https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-Adapter/product-reviews/B0144NS4Z6/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_acr_sr?ie=UTF8&reviewerType=avp_only_reviews

The supported output resolutions and refresh are actually really bad with that device. https://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video/hdmi-displayport-converter-4k~HD2DP

Yes you can connect these two devices together, but you probably shouldn't. So yeah, I don't trust their marketing site. Thank you for making me go through this tedious exercise.

What about this?

u/farptr · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

You need an active adapter to do HDMI to DisplayPort. Your cable is for DisplayPort++ to HDMI as a DisplayPort++ output can switch to HDMI mode. HDMI outputs however can't do DisplayPort without that adapter.

Is it an HDMI to Display Port adapter or is it a Display Port to HDMI adapter that you try to connect in a reverse order? Cause googling for Insignia HDMI to Display Port adapter doesn't bring any hits.

HDMI to Display Port adapters are not so common and they are more expensive. Here are some from Amazon (1),(2),(3),(4).

u/c4ge1nvisibl3 · 2 pointsr/wacom

Yeah man it will work, I'm using my cintiq like that, I have the Startec Hdmi to DisplayPort, however, you need an extra Displayport to minidisplayport cable, don't worry if the name is backwards, it'll work, however even if it says it works in 4k, mine only allows upto 1080p, but Wacom has said in some foorums that using HDMI with 4k would cause a terrible lag as refresh rate is not that high, unless you have HDMI 2.0, but the adapter isn't HDMI 2.0. This will cost 50 bucks (plus shipping), but, as others said maybe, if you have a desktop pc, a new video card with minidiaplay or just display port would be awesome, as you would get better performance, but as far as I know most software it not designed to use your graphic card cores, at most, as far as i remeber, only video or 3d software does that, and of course videogames. Well there you go.

So, this from Amazon is the same thing as yours correct? https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-Adapter/dp/B0144NS4Z6

I'd really rather not try to upgrade the gpu because I have no idea what the hell I'm doing, but it's looking a lot like I may have to

u/mistakenotmy · 2 pointsr/techsupport

Unfortunately that cable will not work. The conversion is directional. While both are digital, they are very different signal types. HDMI uses something call TMDS with a clock signal, where DP uses micro-packets that imbed the clocking.

That difference means that going from one to the other requires a conversion. So the direction matters. Basically a converter made for DP->HDMI will not do HDMI->DP. Theoretically you could make a cross-converter, but I have never seen one on the market.

To go from an HDMI on the PS4 to the DP on the monitor you will need something like this (this one does support up to 4k): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0144NS4Z6

Note: The conversion from DP/HDMI is always active. However it isn't always the cable that does the conversion, so the cable can be passive. This is because DP1.2 ports can have a feature called Dual Mode (DP++) that will output an HDMI signal from a DP port. The cable just changes the connector (and some voltages). That is why you may see DP->HDMI cables called passive cables, because the active part is not in the cable.

You need to link one monitor with DisplayPort to DisplayPort, and the other one HDMI to DisplayPort with an adapter.

You're going to need an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter like this one. Do not get a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter - that won't work for you.

HDMI and DisplayPort may both be digital signals, but they are very different. So direction matters in adapters.

u/usaff22 · 2 pointsr/hackintosh

thanks - do you think this would work? It says it uses an HDMI source and a DisplayPort output

Getting an HDMI to DP adapter that doesn't suck requires navigating through a minefield and they are expensive. Here is an example of a bad one. It still costs 42$, but 37% of users have given it a 1 star rating because it either doesn't work or they couldn't get the resolution higher than 1280x800.

Also, you need to watch out for false claims. Look at this for example. Has HDMI to DP right in in the title, but looking at the description and the seller's answers to question, it only works for DP to HDMI.

Honestly, just go DP to DP.

If you have to go HDMI to DP, you can post the one you consider buying here to get a second opinion.

Sorry but you cannot use our CAC-1070 or CAC-1170 to convert HDMI2.0 into DP, it is only way way conversion.
We do not have HDMI2.0 to DP 1.2 converters.

HDMI to DisplayPort - 4K30 with USB Power

You are right, and I decided to do more work than I should've. Not promising that adapter will work, but its made to do what you want, but adding an HDCP decoder in there complicates things

u/Noah0504 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Eh, sorry I didn't realize that. You might need something like this then: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-Adapter/dp/B0144NS4Z6

There are others as well, but they're not super cheap.

EDIT: Also, if you can have spare RCA inputs on your amp, there are cheaper versions of that HDMI audio extractor. Just search around!

u/impulse89 · 1 pointr/PS4

Yeah, seems like Bi-Directional is the keyword. I found https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0144NS4Z6?th=1&pldnSite=1 but it is 4k30. Thanks for your help!

u/ThePegasi · 1 pointr/mac

This would need to be an active converter rather than a simple passive cable, though. The ones I'm looking at on Amazon state things like "max 1080p" and "doesn't support 16:10 resolutions." In the past I've run in to active converters that fail to produce a resolution/aspect ratio that both the monitor and the computer support, so I'm inclined to believe these spec limitations.

That said, this Startech one seems to support 1920x1200, which should work for the Cinema Display along with a male DisplayPort to female Mini DisplayPort adapter: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0144NS4Z6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1

Bit of a Frankenstein set up, but if it'd get me up and running I'd be happy. Just don't want to drop £45 only to find out it won't work properly, so if anyone's tried this before I'd be interested to hear how it works.

u/grodenglaive · 1 pointr/Pimax

I found an adapter, but not sure if the bandwidth is high enough with HDMI.

u/caseycorrupted · 1 pointr/wacom

Unfortunately it is not USB C to HDMI. It's wacom link/mini displayport to displayport cable/active displayport to hdmi. I have a big ol mess of wires on my desk currently, but at least the cintiq works!

Here's what I'm using:
displayport/hdmi adapter: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0144NS4Z6/

minidisplay to display port cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XRTB2YW

Most of the adapters I've seen work the other way around (DisplayPort to HDMI), but something like this may work:
StarTech.com HDMI to DisplayPort Converter - HDMI to DP Adapter with USB Power - 4K https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0144NS4Z6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mE0gybRMQ018G

OMG... I bought this one fews days ago http://4k.com/monitor/a-review-of-the-samsung-4k-uhd-qhd-ue590-28-inch-screen-u28e590d-led-lit-monitor/

And it seems to be Freesync only via DP.
Does any adapter exist to convert?

Edit : probably this one ? https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-Adapter/dp/B0144NS4Z6

u/pcpuddin · 1 pointr/buildapc

You can't go from HDMI to DP without an active adapter. Something like this I think would work. I forget exactly why but you can't just go from HDMI to DP but you can go form DP to HDMI. Something with the type of signal being sent. Just to add this would also mean getting a DP cable as well to go from the adapter to the monitor you intend to use.

u/luckeratron · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

A friend just linked https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-Power-x/dp/B0144NS4Z6 its very expensive I'll just get a new cable cheers.

u/jamvanderloeff · 0 pointsr/buildapc

AFAIK, nothing exists that supports 2560x1440 at even 60Hz.

If upscaling from 1080p is good enough, you could use this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0144NS4Z6?psc=1, but that's kind of a waste, that's $46 that could have gone toward the new video card.

Best solution IMO would be sell the 750Ti, get a card with DP.
