Thats a VGA female to DVI male adaptor. You can get them at just about any electronics store. Here's one on amazon.
DVI-to-VGA
The mall with the value village has a lil used computer shop and there is one near the Mitsubishi dealership.
Alternatively. They sell a dvi to VGA adaptor dongle that was popular when dvi cards first rolled out and everyone still have VGA monitors. (Hell anyone with an old cards likely have them collecting dust) looks like this https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B000067SOH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_mb44Ab48H3T80
I have been using one with no issue on newer cards, OTV would absolutely have one to buy. Not sure if that fits your specific requirements but its my guess what you are up to.
There's two types of DVI connectors: DVI-D and DVI-I. Only DVI-I is capable of an analog signal, but it looks like your card has that connector (double check me on that). If so you just need a simple DVI-I to VGA adapter like this https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
Make sure it's DVI-I instead of DVI-D by looking at pics of the connectors online, they are slightly different. If its DVI-i there's no conversion necessary and no input lag introduced.
There are 5 types of connector
So long as the thunderbolt adapter you're using is DVI (not VGA), you will need a single-link DVI-D cable (or a dual-link DVI-D cable, the adapter won't support it but it will work)
I'm assuming your monitors are flat panels (since you can get old CRT glass screen monitors with DVI-A sockets.. these are analog and rare!).
DVI-D will work with Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
DVI-A and DVI-I might work with Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter and a VGA to DVI-A but this will require you monitor to work in digital (which all modern flat screens do) as well as Analog (not all DVI sockets support this, you can tell if it has 4 pins around the blade slot)
Basically, if you have a VGA adapter with your mac, expect more problems with flat screens that only have DVI
Then you need a DVI to VGA adapter to plug in to your graphics card.
A lot of the time your motherboard or your graphics card will include this adapter.
Ok, there are 2 different models of a monitor sort of like that. One is pretty much the exact one I linked, and that has a VGA connector(was used on PCs before DVI came into the market). The newer ones(back is totally clear) used ADC(which combines video, usb, and power into one plug). If you have the VGA one you're in luck, you either just plug it right into the VGA port on your computer, or if you only have DVI, you just need a DVI to VGA adapter. Once you get the monitor connected to your computer, you're all set, just boot up the machine, and it should be ready to go. No software or anything is required.
If it's the kind with the ADC adapter, it's really not worth it, since the adapters for those usually go for over $100. You'll be much better off finding someone selling/giving away a used CRT monitor locally
As far as your other questions go;
2. Don't really think there are many safety precautions you need to take, assuming it hasn't been rained on or anything while in storage. I guess be ready to unplug it when you first test it incase the flyback transformer or something inside is smoking. If you don't have any experience with the inside of CRTs, don't go inside it to clean it out or anything, and you'll be fine.
3. not really sure. Maybe if you put it in a garbage bag outside with one of those anti-bug bomb things or whatever, that will get rid of any insects. Not really sure how safe those are for electronics. Maybe someone else can chime in?
4. Only a little crazy :-P
vga to dvi adapters are cheap.
I highly doubt you used THAT exact adapter.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface#/media/File:DVI_pinout.svg
You may have used one like it, but a DVI-I to VGA adapter connects the four pins around the plus section to the corresponding analog wires. The adapter you linked doesn't HAVE those four pins, so it can't adapt anything.
There are IDENTICAL adapters that DO work with DVI-I (http://amzn.com/B000067SOH) notice how that one has the four pins that are missing from the one you linked. I would bet decent money that your adapter has those four pins too.
I found a Cord and an adapter, you can get either I'm not sure if it matters.
The cord
The Adapter
The adapter will work with the cord you are already using in your two photos if you don't want to have another cord lying around your house.
Hey
You're looking for one of these two adapters.
DVI to VGA
DVI-D (Dual Link) to VGA
depending on which DVI port you have on your computer.
http://www.amazon.ca/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
http://www.amazon.ca/Importer520-Male-DVI-D-Female-Adapter/dp/B007EA48MA
Those are them but you can find them in other places :)
Any DVI to VGA adaptor will work.
Such as this
I agree. Looks like OP can use the cable in that link to connect the second monitor to the DVI port (the white one next to where the main monitor it attached). With that cord, it will be blue (from monitor) to white (in computer).
Alternatively, if you have an adapter like this lying around (they usually come with a new video card), you can use that with a (blue) VGA cord. Just plug this puppy into the back of the computer next to where your main monitor is attached. Then a (blue) VGA cable from your second monitor will plug into that adapter.
$3 help you out.
If you want to use your GPU, you always need to plug the cable into the GPU. If you don't, plug it into the MoBo.
Would this work as well or nah?
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
dvi to dsub adapter.
edit: http://smile.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1418265135&sr=8-2&keywords=dvi+to+vga
You are supposed to plug you monitor into your video card, not your motherboard. The plug on the motherboard is there only for if you don't have a videocard. You shouldn't use it at all.
You need to have one monitor plugged in to one port so cancel that amazon order.
VGA is obsolete so you shouldn't be using that either. The 270x doesn't even have a VGA port on it. You will need 2 DVI cables and if your monitors are really old and only have VGA ports, you will need 2 DVI-->VGA adapters.
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH/
Does your monitor only support VGA cable?
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
Use that adapter on your VGA cable, then insert into the DVI port of the motherboard.
DVI and VGA only, which is also a bit of a drawback. I've used monitors without HDMI ports for so long I usually forget to mention that. It comes only with a VGA cable, so you'll probably have to get your own cable or adapter. I use this little doohickey for one monitor and something like this for the other.
>it has DVI and HDMI ports on it aswell
Then you can use DVI to VGA adapter for the second display.
Here is an example: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
Cool. So you have a lot of options.
Displayport to HDMI ( my recommendation )
Displayport to VGA
DVI to VGA
You can probably find these at Best Buy too, not these exact ones, but ones that will work.
Ice said in this thread that he uses a USB to VGA adapter. His other screen is a TV which I can assume is what is using the HDMI on the 970. This leads me to believe that he plays games on the monitor that goes through the USB to VGA adapter, which is why he is having so many performance issues.
Solution 1 (cheapest): Buy a DVI cable and this adapter.
Solution 2 (expensive): Buy a new monitor. Decently priced monitor recommendation
Something like this would be less of a hassle.
Since that graphics card has DisplayPort out, something like this will work.
However, you can also get something like this.
I believe you can use a DVI to VGA adapter for one monitor and DisplayPort to VGA for the other.
Not necessarily old. VGA is the older way to connect monitors, so I would say it's still up to date. Looks like the video card doesn't take VGA (Blue). You'll need a VGA to DVI adapter to connect it that way.
You can buy an adapters. What ports does your GPU have ? Does it have DVI? VGA/DVI adapter is pretty easy to find.
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
Some BIOS will let you run both.
Sorry if this is redundant, but I assume this runs 3 monitors? I didn't see eye-finity listed as one of the features.
As for the converter, I was planning to buy this guy.
So this would work?
edit: fixed the link
Yes, this is exactly what I have. But the adapter that i bought- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000067SOH/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Does not fit in the DVI-D slot,
What adapter do I need?
I posted on your old post but here's a build.

College Rulez! (Heh....heh...)
So my major is Visual Communications! And here is how ITT Tech fucked us VC students over:
So upon the beginning of the year as I met with my administrator telling him about my huge passion for gaming and I really wanted to be a game designer! Here is what he said in a nutshell:
"Well our gaming courses are fantastic and you will learn everything you need to know to get a job! But first, we require you to obtain your Associates in Graphic Design. Many job offers require you to have experience with Adobe Programs and other graphic design programs. So just finished getting your Associates, then we will find you a job and they can pay for your Bachelors courses! YAY! :D"
But that wasnt the case. About 3 months before finishing my Associates quarters as my anticipation for gaming courses built up, they sent my classmates and I a bit of bad news. 'ITT will be cancelling your Bachelors program but only for VC student. Sorry.'
So here I was pissed off that I had a degree I dont want, but heres the funny part. I have grown to love graphic design and I am pursuing my Bachelors in graphic design and couldnt enjoy it more! :D
If I win, then I could really use [this] (http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=EYB47AJ077Y1&coliid=I2E1NQR8CA3G1T) for dual screen. It would help alot when designing! :D Thanks for the contest!

okay so what you need is a displayport/dvi to VGA adapter
dvi to vga,
displayport to vga.
even though there is a pretty big price difference, either will work just fine, just giving you options. you will plug one end of the adapter into the card and the cord goes from the other end to the monitor. Then it should work with the monitor, and will be able to dual screen or mirror screen with the monitor and TV if you wish.
They're pretty close - it depends on the game as to which is faster. Here's Anandtech's benchmark comparison: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1044?vs=1130
A simple female VGA/male DVI adapter should work if one doesn't come with the card. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
Ok, nevermind, I found it. In the video I watched, the guy used a cable I didn't have. (0:40). Can I just buy an adapter like this one https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH/ref=sxts_k2p_hero1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=2668835602&pd_rd_wg=PBGYD&pf_rd_r=5760HCMQG4TA6ZXDNHZD&pf_rd_s=desktop-sx-top-slot&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_i=B000067SOH&pd_rd_w=UnFfI&pf_rd_i=dvi+to+vga+adapter&pd_rd_r=2E44ZK270Q7DKV1K94M1&ie=UTF8&qid=1478654580&sr=1 or do I need both
http://www.amazon.com/electronics/dp/B000067SOH
You can use an adapter.
If you want to use the DVI-D connection you need a special cable like this one.
You can not use an adapter like this because the DVI-D port on your graphics card has a digital signal only. VGA is an analog signal.
Or an HDMI to VGA would work too.
The DVI-HDMI cable is in my opinion the best option. HDMI and single-link DVI are similar on the signal level and the adapter/adapter-cable is passive, simple and cheap.
In case you definitely want to use the VGA input on your old display you could do the following:
The DVI-I natively carries a VGA signal on the 4 additional pins so you can get a DVI-I VGA adapter and the HDMI-DVI cable. Use the HDMI-DVI cable for your main display and the VGA cable with the adapter for the second display.
Would this work?
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
If your video card has a DVI-I port you can get an adapter to use a VGA monitor.
You are better off running both monitors off the video card than trying to square away the BIOS so the video card is the primary graphics adapter.
A two dollar DVI to VGA adapter would work fine. In fact, the card may even come with one.
They look like this, any brand will do:
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
>So if I use the mobo, I won't benefit from my gpu
Pretty much correct.
>maybe I should just buy another monitor then...
Well, you can get another monitor if you want or just the DVI/VGA adapter I mentioned which will allow you to use the VGA monitor with your GTX 1060's DVI output.
Here's an example. I don't necessarily recommend this particular adapter, just the basic idea
Ah shit, I misspoke, meant DVI -> VGA. They look like this. Not sure about DP to VGA, that might work?
Don't buy that GPU. Buy this one instead GTX 1050TI
Also there should be dvi to vga converter with the GPU. If there isn't you'll have to buy this https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
You could buy this:

Btw I don't think you'll find any modern GPU's with a VGA slot, you can buy an adapter which is fairly cheap.
DVI to VGA Cable: https://www.amazon.com/HDE-DVI-DVI-I-male-Cable/dp/B002IWP87S
DVI to VGA Adapter: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
Take your pick.
Most DVI ports can be converted. The exception is DVI-D only ports.
This image tells you what to look for to see if your GPU supports VGA through DVI by a simple adapter.
Here is a link to the type of part you need. A simple passive adapter. Many GPUs came with them in the box. If you have the box for yours, it might still be inside!
Your laptop might be defaulting to an external monitor that isn't there. Looks like your laptop has DVI-I out and HDMI out. That means you should check the DVI-D output, VGA using a DVI-A to VGA pin adapter, and HDMI out. Try whichever is most convenient first, and don't forget that most TVs these days have VGA input as well as HDMI.
Power cable
DVI TO VGA
Please ensure that power cable is correct for the US outlets.
How about vice versa??
Connect the flickering monitor to the motherboard?
If not these are handy - http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
Gotta try and replicate this issue with another monitor. Or without the video card. One of those might be affecting it.
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
This would work if I am connecting this product to my vga cable then into the radeon 6950 with the dvi side?
Did your video card come with any DVI/VGA adapters? The last 4 or so cards that i bought all allowed me to use a VGA with it. Also, i dont think ive ever seen a video card that had male ports. The top 280 sapphire card looks female. I think any cable should really work so long as you have adapters. Since you already have a VGA, you might as well get something like this. I would assume tech stores would carry them, so something like Frys and Microcenter would for sure have them.
Well, unless I'm missing something here to go from DVI-I to VGA all you need is a simple adapter like this:
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
You plug that in to your DVI-I port on your video card, and then boom, you've got a VGA coming out of it to plug into.
Now, I'm not too up to date on modern day video cards so someone correct me if I'm wrong about the next part here:
All the GTX 970s I looked up (which I'll admit wasn't many, just gave it a quick google) had one DVI-I and one DVD-D.
If it is DVD-D then it will not be putting out an analog signal and it won't be as simple to convert it to VGA. You need a converter that would convert if from a digital signal to an analog signal to go from DVI-D to VGA.
Here's one for $46:
http://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video/DVI-D-to-VGA-Active-Adapter-Converter-Cable-1920x1200~DVI2VGAE
I've never actually tried one. So, I can't vouch if they work well or not.
If you could, link the card you're buying so I know if I'm correct about that.
As far ass Dual Link to Single Link, I don't think you need to worry about that at all. Dual link just carries more signal for a larger resolution. I treat all DVI cables (dual-link and single-link) interchangeably and have never had any issues. So, I wouldn't worry about that. I'd be more worried about making sure you do have two DVI-I connectors on that video card.
If I'm missing anything here someone feel free to correct me.
Being Reddit I probably don't have to worry about people being shy about correcting me. :)
Of course!
Amazon Canada: Link
Amazon US: Link
Amazon UK: Link
Just buy this or this and use one card.
Does the graphics card have a DVI port? I'd get a VGA to DVI adapter over conversion to HDMI. Something like so. Make sure you get the right male/female solution.
Cheaper, simpler.
EDIT: But yes, a VGA to HDMI adapter should also work.
Here you go. Adapters sometimes come with your GPU too. I would suggest going DVI to DVI if you have that option on your monitor.
Looks almost like this. But different ports.
StarTech DVI to VGA Cable Adapter, M/F (DVIVGAMF) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000067SOH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YcUyzbD2N3463
something like this
(UK) https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-DVI-VGA-Cable-Adapter/dp/B000067SOH
(US) https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-VGA-Cable-Adapter/dp/B000067SOH
But it's an addon item on Amazon (so you need to order to a minimum value for them to ship it), you might find it somewhere else.
I have both connected with adapters like this http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH both into the gpu ports and no the second one isnt showing up but the first is
Return that monitor and get one with a DVI port. Or you can try one of these.
Make sure the adapter is exactly like your DVI cable adapter.
Does your computer output VGA? If not you could get a DVI to VGA adapter. It's a little cheaper. I do this with my setup, however, I have my XBox on a HDMI to DVI cable to my monitor and my computer on a VGA cable to the monitor (as a secondary monitor) and the audio is output by the other XBox output thingamabob to RCA which I then use a converter to change that to 3.5mm and over to desktop speakers...Sorry if that sounds complicated. I had to use what was laying around and it works! So that's what's important, right!?
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
Ugh, I checked the wrong one... Could you just use two?
Something like this?
What's your video card model? this will probably do the job
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000067SOH/
you can just use one of these, I didn't notice the inputs on the Dell display. It ships free with the display as an add on purchase so it's an extra $3.40. Either that or pay $20 more for a display with more ports :P
> GTX 650 TI
There is your issue. You must have an older monitor with only a VGA connector colored blue? Your GPU doesn't have a VGA port.
You would need to buy an adapter like https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH or get a newer monitor with a DVI connection.
Any chance your monitor also has a port for a DVI cable?
The only other option is to remove the video card and not use it
It sounds like in the other post you don't have your monitor plugged into your video card. You may need to use an VGA-to-DVI adapter to plug your monitor into it.
The adapter you'll need looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1371178212&sr=1-1&keywords=dvi+to+vga+adapter
I assume the adapter is what you need here
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
The connector in the graphics card is DVI-I? Then all you need to get is an adapter like this, which you should be able to find at any competent computer store for a few dollars. That should allow you to use the second monitor correctly.

and get an AMD card that's in the supported cards list. Obviously the newer ones will have more power, but I've read roughly HD 5000 series and up is generally good. Also use this link to grab crt emudriver.
Make sure you have a DVI-I to VGA adapter, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
Next, get a VGA to 5BNC connector. Something like this, although https://www.amazon.com/Coax-HD15-RGBHV-Monitor-Cable/dp/B0033AF5Y0, although shop around if you want one with higher user reviews, that one has about 3 stars for some reason.
You can roughly follow this guide: http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=1052#p1052
Although note that you won't have to disconnect your LCD display/main display while you install CRT emudriver. That's how I did it. I still have my main monitor connected and the crt emudriver monitor is a second monitor.

EDIT: Whoops. Needed DVI-D, not DVI-I.
As long as the GTX 960 has a DVI-A or DVI-I style connector it should work with one of the inexpensive passive ones, yes.
wait for rx 480 that have DVI port
and buy a dirty cheap dvi2vga
Yes you can only connect to you GPU, you wouldn't be able to use you onboard graphics and your GPU at the same time (in most cases). If you really need a VGA slot just buy a DVI to VGA adapter like this one.
You can if fact connect two VGA monitors to a GTX 750 TI. However, it will require buying two difference adaptors. One of them is cheap and passive, the other is pricier and active.
You will need a cheap DVI to VGA adaptor such as this one:
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411602731&sr=8-1&keywords=dvi+to+vga
And you will need a more expensive DisplayPort to VGA adaptor which is active:
http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Plated-DisplayPort-Adapter/dp/B005H3Q56I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411602844&sr=8-1&keywords=displayport+to+vga
It's another video port just like HDMI or DVI. The HDMI can be plugged into the HDMI port and the DVI cable into the bottom DVI port (the one with fewer pins). A VGA cable is a last resort and will need one of these to plug into the top DVI port. http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
You should be able to find a DVI to VGA converter for cheap. I had to do the same thing.
One of the DVI ports carries an analog video signal too(DVI-I) and one of them doesn't (DVI-D). If you're not using both your DVI ports then you can use a DVI-I to VGA adapter. You should be able to get one for less than $5 bucks but the cheapest I saw on amazon prime was $7.
They used to include DVI-i to VGA adapters with everything. You might want to check that your card didn't come with one in the box. It's possible that they didn't include one though.
If you are already using both your DVI ports, or you want to add a second VGA then you'll need the displayport adapter I linked to in the first post.
It looks something like this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000067SOH/ref=twister_B01MXDZH13?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1. Also, how can I set my monitor to analog input if it wont even turn on. Monitor open when pc powers up. It shows its aoc logo then went straight to no signal. Thanks!
I would personally go with a VGA to DVI adapter if your graphics card has a DVI port (most do). It's cheaper and the adapter passes the video analog, there is no digital to analog conversion like you have with this HDMI adapter you linked.
Yes, my bad I meant I/O.
Why even even sell it if it won't work
I bought This one because it has good reviews but why even sell it if it doesn't work.
Why would you need more than 1 display to open BIOS?!?
You don't need an active adaptor. All you need is this or something similar.
your video card has a DVI-I connector so you can connect a VGA monitor to it directly with the use of an adapter that i would bet the card probably came with when brand new https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
would a adaptor work like this one? https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH
You'll need a DVI to VGA adapter.

DVI to vga is an extremely cheap and common adapter. They use to and prob still do come packaged with monitors, gpus etc. Here
