but you need to use a capital -D rather than the lowercase -d, and you should have your vive itself unplugged when you do it.

Edit: I should point out I haven't tried this yet, I just have everything bookmarked for future reference. It's pretty safe to assume that it will stop working at some point, as it's clearly unofficial. I assume that this will get easier once the new tracking donuts go on the market, though, so this may not matter soon.
Valve does sell the receiver separately. It doesn't display the price for me, but Amazon shows it for $12.99.

Have no idea what makes them different than a BT receiver.
No, this is for if you want to use the Index controllers with anything besides the Index, Vive, or Vive Pro. The controllers connect via the headset for those 3, but any Oculus, WMR, or other headset will need the USB dongle to be able to connect with the Index controllers. They're typically much more than $5 for just the dongle so this is a great deal for anyone that needs them.
