They make pens that have a little flashlight on the end. I used to have one.

Streamlight pen light - size of a penlight (fits in my pen pocket), brightness of an LED flashlight.

I have an LED penlight like this that uses them. I don't use the light very often, shitty battery life and low light output.

This was recommended in another thread. It has a cap to put over the light because it's so bright. I've been in a brightly lit trauma bay and still get a good pupillary response.

I use this for checking pupils at work, but it’s a handy little guy for looking down keyways.

Pen Light It's probably a little too bright but it's still awesome none-the-less

I have also heard great things about the book The House of God even if you are not religious. I have not had a chance to read it yet but it's on my list.

If you are trying to spend a little more money an engraves stethoscope (I recommend the Cardiology III) is always appreciated.

I sort of hate that all the neurologists here carry the same penlight as me, but no one seems to have tested it on themselves... It's blindingly bright and specifically says it shouldn't be shone in the eyes. The only time I use it "full power" is when I can't get a pupillary response on a patient with visible, bad cataracts.

But it's really nice and still exceptionally bright when you cover the "glare guard" tip with a strip of silk tape.

If you don't have one of these and you work a lot of DWI, you're missing out.

I decorate mine for holidays.

Also, I've noticed that several of our guys have invested in these lately. They seem to be pretty popular. I don't have one, but I can see how it'd be useful, especially if you work nights.

I bought a very fancy pen light some years back that requires AAAA. has been going strong for years with no problems.

>you could EDC a streamlight stylus pro

Here is a link to one on Amazon. They're a little long, but very thin thanks to the AAAA (yes, 4A) batteries they use, even narrower than AAA's. They're pretty bright for a single LED... not something you'd use walking through the woods unless it was moonless, but good for semi-close work like locksmithing. They're available with different color LED's, too (including a UV one). I use one with a blue LED for DUI sobriety tests (HGN) on the few occasions I work night shift.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, it has a push-button on the rear for momentary on, or you can twist the rear for steady-on. Also a pen clip, so if you'd prefer, you can slide it in a shirt pocket.
