Next time need to get a free draining soil going.

Perlite is a must. I also use this and this.

Different plants have different needs, best to do research before purchasing and planting.

Some people put river stones on the top because it can give a better appearance than just soil, and the stones don’t get as disturbed by watering. Although in this document the soil being used is something like this, which is a type of soil that looks very rocky in appearance. It’s great soil type for succulents but you probably have to water more often with it.

Dude I live in Hawaii so I feel you. It’s not even the most humid place in the world and I still have problems getting indoor succs to dry.

I really liked this soil I got from Amazon by Superfly Bonsai. I have two of my succs potted in that and they’re doing really well. I’m also about to try Bonsai Jack’s soil (here). It looks really coarse with large particle size, so I’m hoping my succs will like it. They are both “soil-less” potting mixes. You could probably make your own by just reading the ingredients on the bag and finding the raw materials.

I’m having trouble identifying the problem with this paddle plant. I received it eleven months ago as an office gift, and left it on my desk without any real natural light for months. It didn’t do well at all. I eventually brought it home, repotted it in a pot with drainage holes and succulent soil (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072HKXT2S/), and left it on a bright southwest windowsill. It did so much better for a while!

I was watering it once a month, but recently I had a big project at work -and- I repotted a bunch of my plants and I can’t remember if I watered it properly or over/under watered it. Recently the pink edges have started to turn brown, and there’s a leaf with tiny black specks on it (they don’t move, so I don’t think they’re bugs). The brown edges make it look burnt, but the spots seem to be from overwatering from the research I’ve done.

Can you help me figure out what’s wrong or what I can do better for it? I’m still really unsure of myself when it comes to plants and I don’t want to lose this one :(
