I really do believe that artificial hormones really f with our systems (joys of being a woman). I have a friend who had to go back on birth control because, like you, going off made her skin freak out, and I got a hormonal IUD a year ago and have only just gotten my hormonal breakouts mostly under control.

I was suffering from cystic breakouts on my face and back (ow!!). My saving grace was sulfur soap - it made everything vanish within weeks. I don't get those painful cysts anymore!! It's super cheap, and the bar lasts for a while. I use it in the shower every day. It does smell but I find it doesn't linger after drying off (and the results are worth it regardless). I first learned about it from some obscure comment after hours of digging on r/SkincareAddiction and I wish it was more well-known because it really changed my skin.

this is the one I buy specifically. It comes in a little twist-cap plastic jar so your bathroom doesn't smell like sulfur and it preserves the soap so it doesn't melt away when it gets wet.

The smell is not THAT strong but you will still smell it faintly. You do get used to it very quickly.

I wash with plain soap first and exfoliate well then I wash with the sulfur soap letting it stay on my skin for a minute or two instead of washing it off right away. It treats my body acne and eczema very well

This is the one I use.

Since this is basically Sulphur soap, does it smell bad after it comes in contact with clothes?

I've been using this sulphur soap for a couple weeks with no improvement, and it made my shirts and pillow cases smell awful.

Other than that, I'm very happy that it has worked for you, and I hope it keeps working!

I live in Florida with oily, acne-prone skin. I use mostly AB, but there are some western products that I haven't been able to find better replacements for. Here's my oil-conscious morning routine:

  • Cleanse with sulfur soap. I'm currently testing this out on my acne and recently switched from Cosrx's Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser.

  • Tone with Cosrx Natural Bha Skin Returning A-sol.

  • Reduce excess sebum with Cosrx Bha Blackhead Power Liquid 2-3 times per week. I find that this helps keep my pores clean and reduces oil production.

  • (After waiting 20 minutes) Protect with Biore UV Aqua Rich sunscreen.

  • Moisturize and prime with Nivea Men Sensitive Skin After Shave Balm, which is seriously the best makeup primer I have ever used. Possibly also the cheapest. Feels like nothing on my face, yet allows makeup to stay on all day. Definitely one of my HGs.

  • Color correct with Missha Magic Cushion. It's lightweight, provides good coverage, stays on and doesn't get cakey.

  • And, if I know that I'm going to be outside or busy all day, I'll spray on Skindinavia's Makeup Finishing Spray, which works better than powder and doesn't dry out my skin.

I've had success using sulfur soap to stop breakouts on my body. It's worked for my SO as well.

Ideally you would want one of the maximum strength varieties, but any variety will work. Really lather it up on a loofa and scrub hard all over your body. If you can talk to a dermatologist you should look into getting a sulfur soap too... if not, give this one a shot: http://www.amazon.com/Sulphur-Soap-Premium-Sulfur-Advanced/dp/B00CST4AS4

If your skin hasn't responded to antibiotics, it's possible you're dealing with Malassezia Folliculitis (fungal "acne"). This guide https://simpleskincarescience.com/pityrosporum-folliculitis-treatment-malassezia-cure/ helped me clear my skin in about two months after spending five years dealing with pimples that wouldn't respond to typical acne treatments.

Of course, YMMV, but my current routine is nothing in the AM, PM shower using Head and Shoulders on hair/body (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MXLFQGB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1), Pantene on hair (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MTNOJ2Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1), and sulfur soap on my face (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CST4AS4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Right after shower, I slap on some aloe vera gel (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IRAFRQW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) followed by MSM gel (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000O379PC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and then Cerave Baby Cream (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WH31P7A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1). Twice a week I put Nizoral (https://www.amazon.com/Nizoral-Anti-Dandruff-Shampoo-Ketoconazole-Dandruff/dp/B00AINMFAC/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=nizoral&qid=1566134798&s=gateway&sr=8-3) on my face and let it sit for 3-5 minutes and then wash it off. I've run this full routine by a licensed dermatologist who told me the sulfur and Nizoral would do the heavy lifting to keep the Malassezia at bay, and as far as I can tell those two items are the keystones of this routine. Everything else I use because the sulfur and Nizoral can be very drying. All of those products I pulled from that skincare blog, so I would read through it and see if the skin condition addressed there matches what you're experiencing.

Good luck. This is the routine that made my skin do a complete 180 in February after I saw no improvement from derm prescribed antibiotics and benzoyl peroxide.
