The ongoing, deliberate destruction of the labor movement via social programming is astounding (and upsetting).

Alex Carey left behind a manuscript which, "When Noam Chomsky dedicated his book "Manufacturing Consent" to the memory of Alex Carey, he said that the Australian sociologist would have written the definitive history of propaganda in the US, had he lived to complete his work.
The 20th century, Carey says, is marked by three historic developments: the growth of democracy via the expansion of the franchise, the growth of corporations, and the growth of propaganda to protect corporations from democracy. Carey's unique view of US history goes back to World War I and ends with the Reagan era"

The following reading of his manuscript at www.tucradio.org is a FANTASTIC dip into the history (including actual audio of the propaganda being foisted on the public), free to listen at the following link.

Also recommend the book that evolved out of his manuscript "Taking the Risk Out of Democracy"

As I mentioned, this is documented in a book called Selling Free Enterprise, and you can also read about it books like Taking the Risk out of Democracy by Alex Carey. But also, you can sort of see this in your own personal experience. Go watch a television or internet ad, for instance -- we are practically inundated with a bombardment of propaganda trying to sway us to buy one product or another. This just as true for ideas as it is for products.
